What is a "sticky thread"?

Excuse my ignorance, yes I'm new, but what is a "Sticky Thread"?

A 'sticky' is when a topic or thread is considered too important to lose. By making it a 'sticky', it remains at the top of the forum instead of dropping out of sight, even if nothing gets added to it over time.

Ah I see, thank you. I did wonder what one would do if they posted a question but it dropped out of sight and the right person with the answer had not seen the post. Would they just have to repost it again?

Or you can 'subscribe' to that thread and it'll show up in your email whenever someone posts to it....or just keep up with it and post something in it if no one has and that will bring it back to the top.

Whenever I answer or comment on a post in a thread, I'm automatically subscribed. If I no longer have an interest in it, I have to click 'unsubscribe' to stop it from showing up.

Just posting on a thread will give you 'alerts' at the top right hand side of the page. You can also click on your name at the top right and then click on alert preferences and click or unclick what you want to do.
