Please pray for my Uncle Bill. Bill went in for leg amputation today at noon. Mom, his sister, will call when he's out and awake.

Bill's been a Mopar guy since the 60s. He's had Darts, Cudas, Dusters, Power Wagons and Vans. He used to street race in Chickasha, Ok where he grew up. He currently drives a 2016 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel Limited. His dream is to build a 70s D100 turbo diesel street rod. Bill is the reason I am into Mopars today.

Unfortunately, Bill has had his share of accidents. All of which have taken a toll on his legs. He's had bone and skin grafts, one knee replacement and had to deal with morphine addiction. IN recent years he has had bone infections that spread to his blood. He has lived with so much pain since his teens he has finally decided to rid himself of the leg that has never healed since the 70s and caused him a life of pain. He will be fitted with a prosthetic leg and go through physical therapy before he can go home and back to work. In a few years he can retired and start building his dream truck. It will not be easy but Bill is tough as nails.

Please remember Bill in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks FBBO

Thoughts and Prayers for Uncle(Mopar)Bill. Must have been a tough decision. My Dad has very similar scenario, got hit broadside on his Harley years ago. Sun in the drivers eyes, didn't see the red. Doctor today for consultation. Difficult time.

God bless Uncle Bill - we’ll be praying for him. I applaud his courage to go thru with something like an elective amputation. He must have had a very difficult time with that leg. Pray that he gets thru rehab okay. There’s been so many potent advancements in prosthetic limbs that he’ll hopefully be better off.

One of Bill's many accidents was when he had his Harley. Back in the day (1977 ish) we were on the main drag watching the cars and Uncle Bill pulled up on his new hog. Everyone wanted a ride and Bill never turned anyone down. I was next in line to get a ride on his new bike when my brother's busty girlfriend pulled up; she got on instead. I still can't understand why (lol). Anyway, they were coming back on a service road next to a highway off ramp and got sideswiped. She got thrown off breaking her leg and the bike landed on Bill crushing his leg in some places.

The Doc was going to amputate back then but my Dad stepped in and stopped them. Dad was very persuasive being an ex drill instructor. Bill was thankful for a long time but lived to regret it.

BTW, he came out of surgery about 4 PM and all went well. Surprisingly, Mom said he will be released in just a few days. I guess things have changed since my Dad had his leg amputated due to arterial sclerosis in the 80s.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. Bill will be needing lots of them for some time.

Wishing You a speedy recovery & adjustment Bill.

Bill got to go home on Sunday, Oct 8th. He's doing really well for a man who just lost a limb. He has to go in for a check up this coming Tuesday. He's already bored sitting at home by himself. A home health care nurse visits twice per week to tend his needs.

On a sad note, my Mom, Bill's sister, who will be 79 in December, was at Bill's yesterday and lost her footing on his steep driveway while checking the mail. She took a tumble and scraped her knee and bumped her head. She got checked out at the ER and released with no broken bones or brain injury.

It's not the first time Mom's fallen down. So, I searched online for some tips to improve balance. The article stated that more women age 65 and over die of complication from broken hips from falling than they do from breast cancer. I never knew that before. So, why are we spending so much on cancer research when more die from falling down?

OK, off the soap box.

Bill said thanks for everyone's prayers and well wishes Maybe I can get him to join FBBO to share some of his vast Mopar knowledge to ease his boredom until he goes back to work.

Will do my friend

Just had railings etc installed at my parents in Florida. Falls are scary and underreported for their significance. Throw rugs, sharp cornered coffee tables etc should be moved or removed. Do what you can. Glad he is home. Bored but more comfortable.

Just took Bill for his post op check up yesterday. The Doc removed the staples and said everything was healing very well. Bill feels well but has weird electrical type pains that make him cry out once in a while then stop immediately. Strange.

On a more positive note, Bill bought another Mopar pickup. It's being delivered this morning. It's a 1970 D100 step side, 6 cyl, 3 on the tree. He's planning a Cummins swap with an automatic. I'll post some pics later.

Thanks for keeping Bill in your thoughts and prayers.

Good luck to Bill. Glad he’s home and gets fitted soon with his brand new leg. I’m sure it will be an adjustment but Bill seems to be just the guy that can deal with that kind of thing. We wish him well and yes - get him to join FBBO so we can learn a thing or two from him.

I've suggested he join FBBO for that reason or at least FABO, FEBO, or the trucks only (FTO?). Bill never owned a B body. He owned lots of A and E bodies and trucks and vans.

He goes back December to see about a prosthesis. He may get one first part of next year. It seems the process is very slow.

Meanwhile, they are dicking him around at work now. Their attitude seems to have gone from, you are irreplaceable so hurry up and get well and back to work because we can't do without you" to "why don't you take a early retirement."

He only has 3 years for full retirement pay and has a desk job. But they have no light or limited duty in their policy. So, you have to have a full release from your doctor to go back to work.

That’s very sad but unfortunately very typical. Corporate America is a very unforgiving place. I myself went thru some health problems a few years back and went back to work to the being thrown to the wolves attitudes. I said screw it not worth another heart attack and retired early. It’s a very ugly environment these days. Tell him not to kill himself trying to meet their demands. You’d think I guy that just lost a leg would get a little more empathy. God Bless
