Christmas ended up a new AMD rear bumper! What do I do with the old original? Dents, scratches are all over it? Any ideas?

The cost of shipping stuff like this usually is a deal killer even if the price is free.

If it doesn't have any bad whacks, isn't deformed, seems to me it would be worth a straightening & replating @ bumper shop.
Old Bee, any gauge difference between AMD & original?

As long as the bumper is not severely pitted on the back side and only has minor dents and dings, then it would be usable as a core. It is getting difficult to find bumpers that are not heavily pitted. Once they are dipped and the acid eats away the original chrome and rust, you are finding more and more of them ate up with small pin holes which basically leaves them useless for show chrome purposes.

Helluva good question, with a cheap gauge they seem identical; who wudda thunk?!

I weighed my originals and compared them with AMD and they were within 8 oz. Big difference is the AMD bumpers have welded corners which can be seen from the inside but are not seen when mounted. I was very happy with mine.

I have front and rear cores in my garage if anyone needs them as well.

I've heard that the repro bumpers are thinner steel. Perhaps you can weigh each one individually to verify.

Good cores are very hard to find....Being free of dents and minor scratches is great but if pitted badly on the backside then that is a key issue as well....

So if dent free and little or no pitting...Keep it....

Good bumper shop can get rid of certain dents, so long as the bumper isn't kinked, twisted, retains it's general shape

The rear original weighed 22 lbs and the AMD rear weighed 21.5 lbs. I weighed the fronts as well and while I don't recall the numbers they were within 1/2 lb.
