Needing help again because Alzsheimers is setting in. Who can recommend rebuilding of hood hinges for 71? Advice?

Thanks again!

Are they rusty? bent? springs weak? I'd be inclined to replace them. You can put new springs on VERY carefully with a pry bar from what I recall.

Not rusty, Beeper. In fact, they're painted and on my car. But my friend who is helping me out since I'm not home says the back sticks up, probably needing a rebuild. I thought they were rebuilt but can't remember. Wish I was home to see first hand but duty calls for now:(

If the back sticks up, have you made sure its not just an adjustment issue?

If you can't push it down into place then probably you'll have to adjust the hinges.

If you can push it down then maybe the springs are weak. You can buy new springs and change them on the car. They make a tool or you can do this...

If they're not lubed and are dry, that will keep them from pulling the hood down all the way also.

Be careful trying to push them down... DON'T PUSH HARD!! I've seen someone ruin a brand new hood that way!! He mounted a brand new AMD hood. The back was sticking up so he pushed down on it. Ended up being out of adjustment, and pushing down on it caused an outie on the hood surface. :cursin:

I suggest you take a look at the adjustment like others are saying. There are 4 big bolts that attach the hinges to the inner fender area (2 on each hinge). Maybe those are out of adjustment? I think that's where most of the hood adjustment is. The hood/hinge bolts are pretty much front/back & angling the hood left/right. These other hinge/fender bolts I'm talking about adjust the up/down, especially in the back of the hood.

I sent my hinges to Willie Wilson @Wilson Antique Car Parts (434-258-2606) For $250 they are like brand new. Very happy with his work.
POPS

Right now, I think I'm going to wait till I get home and see what they look like, maybe an adjustment before I do anything else.

Yeah,I think its sometimers for me. I was trying to adjust my hood some 5-6 years ago now and I read somewhere that you need to "raise (yes raise ) the hinges" to get the hood to lay down. I tried it and yes it worked. It helped to have somebody hold the hood while it is adjusted.

I read that as well, Wahya but can't remember where or if it was in the manual. I'm looking through the manual to try to find it. I just can't wait to get home from this deployment to asses the hinges and go from there. It will probably drive me crazy till I see how they are.

I appreciate it wahya. Thanks!
