This is the definitive example of a "Project Car" (Craigs listing)

Amazing what guys price these cars these days!

And I thought I paid too much for mine....just sayin....

Nope:rofl:....As much as I love those cars, this one is rough but definitely can be restored, but not for $7200. Other than the bumpers being sent out to be re-chromed, the rest of the stuff is pretty much shot to try to fix. IMHO 2k at best.

I wonder how long he blocked the street with all of those parts laid out?

I give him credit though, unlike most Craigslisters, he actually posted a lot of informative pictures.

They ask these ridiculous prices because they see a restored car like theres going for 30 grand and think there car can be restored to near perfect condition for 15 to 20 grand. They have no idea what it costs to restore a car.
When i was into MG's i went to see a early B a guy wanted to sell. It had been outside uncovered under dense trees for over 20 years. The body was completely rusted out. Holes even in the tops of the fenders. The interior was gone, the motor seized and just parts car at most and only maybe some mechanical parts. I told the guy as nicely as i could the car was to far gone to even consider restoring. He got indignant and when i asked him ok, how much do you think it would cost to restore this car he told me maybe ten to fifteen grand and that was sending out the body work! At that point i made him a offer but he refused because i was honest enough to say the car was not restorable
He sold it for the same money to a guy who lied to him and told him he was going to lovenly restore it to like new condition. Of course the guy stripped it for whatever he could salvage and junked the rest

Very well put. If you want to restore something and be able to do the for the least cost, pick a Camaro, Mustang, or Chevelle. There are more new and used parts available for those cars than anything else, and for a fraction of the price of anything else. Some folks don't realize that parts are not reproduced for every "classic" car out there, or what the real costs for work.

Clapped out is what I would call it. $1000 at the top end. That's a bunch of work and spent money sitting right there..

Im all for restoring cars that you can buy cheaper already done. Why? Well sooner or later these cars that need restoring wont be around. Also its a hobby, not a business venture. You restore a car because you like it, you enjoy that aspect of the hobby. You also may not have the deep enough pockets to buy a car already done even though in the end doing it yourself costs way more. Save your money until you can afford a car done? Sound advise for some. For others its not practical to save up 30, 40 or more grand and buy a car in one shot. We dont have the disposable income and cant justify sending that kind of coin at one time on a hobby car. The only thing is id hope folks selling these cars like the one in this thread come back down to planet earth and get real with the prices.

That guy is....ambitious to say the least. Not worth a cent over $1k

Even as a parts car, there is not much there that is usable. I'll pass, thank you....
