I bought what i thought was a good set of wires for my stock 383. Numbers 8 and 7 being the longest have straight plug ends while the others are all L shape. The straight long ones are a PIA to get on and I've had them fall off several times. Never in all these years did i ever have this problem. I used that electrical grease and it made it worse. I trimmed back the boot on one of them and that seemed to work. The problem is i cant push the inside terminal more towards the end of the boot..... So my question is who makes a good set of replacement wires and are they all right angle boots? Thanks

I'll second Firecore. The fit is excellent and retention is better than any I have ever tried. You can get whatever boot on whatever wire you tell him. He really goes above and beyond for the wire sets to fit and look good.

No problems with my Taylor wires, even put a set on a buddies 440... with headers, the back 4 were 135 degree? Boots and front 4 were 90 .. I'll double check in the morning

Firecore are nice because they're made to your desires..also way too much money to spend on wires in my opinion. I like the sets you make yourself, however currently I'm using a set of out-of-the-box Taylors they have 90° boots with two 135° boots and have been absolutely flawless...65$ and just as good as anything for a street hotrod..

Hey Steve, I've run a bunch of different sets of wires over the years. I've had exactly the same problem as you here & there and I've even cut a boot or two just like you did. However, I don't personally think it's a "bad" set of wires that causes the problem.

In my experience, it's just that the wire is pulled too far back in the boot. It may just be manufactured a little bit off, or if your wires are cut-to-fit, you might have pulled the wire back in a little too far. Anyway, I've had good luck putting a set of needle nose pliers inside the boot & grabbing ahold of the plug terminal end & pulling it towards the end a little further. I've pulled the ends off a few times doing that, but I just re-crimp them. For cut-to-fits (or pre-made too), I like to leave the wire sticking way out of the boot, push it onto the plug & then slide the boot up on the plug last (& not too far up on the plug)

I have also noticed that boots tend to pop off when the wires are new, but after a couple hundred miles they stop popping off....as long as they're seated well & clicked into place.

Again, no problems with this outta the box taylor set...I'd rather the coil wire have a 90 on the coil end but not a big deal

8mm Spiro-Pro Taylor here. No problems at all. Cut to fit with straight plug boots.

No, not at all. Wires were way too long, at least for me they were. I cut each one to my liking, not a big deal

i'd suggest buying the crimping tool and custom making your own wires. you'll always have the tool for any mishaps and changes and this leaves you in control of the situation.

We run Taylor Street Thunder 8mm on our race car. Never a problem. Plan on using them for my Super Bee.

FireCore here. too. I like that they tend to withstand header heat well and don't come off by themselves.

Thanks to all for the help. I will be looking at the FireCore. For now i pulled the boot back and got the terminal tight on the end of the plug. It wont fall off this time. When i do my new motor will change these wires for the ones you guys have recommend.

Just what I was looking for & at a great $! How do you determine the date codes for the wires? Also does it matter if you use these with electronic ignition?

shouldn't matter points or electronic but...these are not a spiral core wire like Taylor or Firecore. Mopar never used a spiral core wire so they will be fine but u do get a better wire with a quality aftermarket wire
