Either my bolts holding the pans are coming loose or I need some new gaskets for my 68. Has a 1977 440 in it and a 727 automatic.

I was told by someone the other day to use metal core vs. cork. Anyone have a link to ones that are LEAST likely to leak? Hoping to have a dry garage floor, LOL.

I just bought fel1834 for my oil pan. I'll let you know how it works.

Sure it is the gaskets? Not a rear main, cam plug, valve cover etc....

I have always used felpro cork and never had problems but you have to install them properly....

not totally sure moparnation74: i'll have to put it up on a rack and take a real close look. Lmk if you have tips on how to find the exact location of the leak. Spray brake parts cleaner on/around the bottom of the pans, wipe it down, run the car a bit and look with a flashlight is what I was thinking. I appreciate your experience and help

I would first do a visual inspection prior to cleaning it off......

Typically, valve cover leaks on the rear outer corner.....4spd/AT remove the inspection cover and shine a light to see if wet and if convertor/flywheel is wet etc......

If the pan is wet on the front area below timing cover then it is a pan gasket issue on the front......

If all those check out fine the last area is the rear main and that is a wet area on the rear of the pan and on the front of the inspection cover for AT and drips through the weep hole on both covers 4spd/AT

Mine is leaking at both front corners.

For the trans pan, as suggested above, Brakleen the area so you might be able to pinpoint the leak location. Make sure pan flange is true. I have had good luck with cork/rubber ones - Mr. Gasket or Mopar. Make sure you use a torque wrench and tighten to the correct tightness - 150 inch pounds/12.5 foot pounds.

For the engine oil pan I like the Fel-Pro 1834.

Good luck.

727 transmission gasket - Mopar transmission gasket 2464324AC. Made of hard plastic, it's reusable and you will never have a leak again or replace it.

I have a solid silicone trans gasket $35 but no leaks and reusable as well.

oil pan leaks can be valve covers or op sender or lots of things like rear main check carefully

If you try the good advice above and still have trouble finding the leak(s) I recommend yellow goggles, a black light flashlight and some all purpose leak detection additive. Just add the recommended amount to your transmission oil and engine oil one system at a time then check for leaks. You need a dark room for this. It works very well.

I think the local auto parts stores sell these, too.

Transmission pan gasket. Get it from your dodge dealer. No more leaks. Gasket for 518 transmission.
