SO who else was Awaken this morning by Gunshots at the Nats?

Rumor has it that Jiim sold the rights to the Nats last night.
Supposedly, the event is moving again.
I heard Michigan

Another good reason to stick close to home.....? At least I know where all the sheeet holes are.

One year I booked the room for Carlisle too late, and the hotel that I usually stayed at was totally booked, so my wife found a room in Harrisburg. There was bullet holes in the door to the room! The only thing missing was the chalk outlines of the bodies! Plus it was across the street from the goat show! The clerk said when I asked him for a cot,the cot was 5 dollar, his sister was 10 dollar, and the goat was 15 dollar! Lol

Almost went to the Nats in 1985. It's weird that I've never had a real desire to go to the Nats. I despise crowds and all the Crap that goes with. Went to the old Car Craft Nats in California, St Louis and central Illinois in the early to mid-80s, but after that, big "national" shows of any kind hold no interest for me. With the nonsense of the Nats this year, it appears I've made a good decision.

I'd much rather go to Bonneville (went in 2010!) where the fun is off the charts! Had to miss this year, but going next year, for certain.

Any of you fellows remember when there was some kind of arrangement dispute between can't think of the guy who put the nationals on. Anyway national trails wouldn't host the event. So it was moved to indy. We all thought man indy will be cool car town, not this time with law enforcement anyway. Tickets left and right, threatening to arrest us for being in hotel parking lot after ten. Three of us in parking lot cold sober quietly waxing our cars and they asked us call it a night. Any one remember that.
Yup.. I remember the Indy show too. The cops were ******** everywhere in the area that week-end. My wife and I were at a Motel on Michigan Ave 20 miles from the track and it was a steady light show from squad cars stopping every Mopar that was moving. They even pulled a gal out of a Mustang and arrested her for cruising. Guess those cops couldn't tell a Mustang from a Mopar. One of the guys staying at our Motel was a Lawyer from California with a Hemi Cuda that went to jail for going out to eat. His car went to a tow yard on a hook. Some of us were smart enough to order a pizza delivery. We almost got arrested for sitting out in the parking lot watching the light show. The cops told us that vagrancy was against the law. I thought better of asking them if they knew the meaning of vagrancy. Pretty intense entertainment.

That would be a GOOD thing if he did sell it. He has totally milked it dry and squeezed every last dollar out of it that he could, and in the process ruined what was once a very respectable show.

Not sure even NEW and well intentioned management can revive it though, show has already flat-lined.

Columbus area sucks. When I first moved to Ohio about 10 years, we lived in Columbus for a year. The whole area has been getting worse and worse. Now we live in a little town about 40 minutes north of Columbus.
Brice Rd has been getting more ghetto over the years. Lol. The ghetto is spreading. I have a friend that does a lot of traveling. He has always referred to Columbus, OH as the "armpit of America".

The problem was the Nats outgrew Columbus so moved to Indy. But we got such a shitty reception from EVERYONE that many people said they'd never go back (I never did). National trail expanded and the Nats moved back.

From what I'm reading about Indy, I wouldn't even go. There has to be "some" give by LEOs-I'm not talking about letting people run wild, but seriously?
Crusin the Coast along the Mississippi Gulf Coast between Bay St. Louis and Ocean Springs gets bigger every year and this year is the 22nd year. Last year there were almost 8,000 registered cars, and more show up to cruise the coast.
You can get the occasional shortie tire spin and not get pulled over, or at least not get a ticket. Now there is enforcement to prevent tire smoking 300 foot burnouts, but given the crowds and their location all along the road, doing long burnouts isn't a safe idea anyway. As far as "hanging out" goes, there are crowds sitting and standing along the road in parking bays and lots all day and night!
The LEOs definitely don't hassle cruisers, and the economic benefits to the area are MASSIVE. Win Win.

Back when we first started going to the Spring Nationals in 1980 we use to stay on Brice Road... then in the late 80's early 90's I use to live on Brice Rd.... It was a really nice place then, really upper middle class.

You couldn't pay me to stay there now.

I was talking to Bob Marshall a couple of weeks ago at Norwalk, he still has his Shell Station on Hamilton. He was telling me how he's been robed, and his one employee got beat up.

Stay away from the East and North Sides for sure...Stay Pickerington or further east. I guess I might as well include the south side also. LOL, have to go Grove City or South... North Side have to go Polaris Parkway or North.

yep knew you guys would remember, no kidding mopars and indy didn't jive there. We were literally just quietly waxing the cars no radios no yelling. We didn't stay long my friend got wire from a wire wheel in his forearm and it got infected, it was swelled up big time. This was second day went to urgent care and doctor put him on strongest antibiotics they had. He said man you mind if we head home, i said lets go the office visit was more fun then the welcome we mopar guys got at indy.

Yeah, I remember Indy. Went there. Didn't think much of it. Here's an idea how bout the show promoter or who ever runs the Nats shut the whole show down there and move it over to Englishtown and revamp it like it was in the heyday of the late 80's and work on the family or whoever shut down the track there this year to reopen it up. Place is huge and see if it works. If not, well guess the Nats will die off like everyone seems to be saying slowly. Maybe there is to many shows and everyone getting burned out? Maybe a big show out West and big show on East. There are a few in mid West also. Carlisle has a lot of shows and then Hershey. Sometimes you get burned out but then again they have a variety of different folks with different strokes.

Just read in Mopar Collectors Guide in Robs article last night that Mopars at Englishtown may be rejuvenated and they may bring the track back in 2019 as by the selling of the Nats.

I don't go on line to read it but I get the magazine. I can try to go on line and copy and paste it here. Just a short mention of it in his editorial up in front pages.

This year was my first Nats. I thought it was fun with all the drag racing and such. Didnt know it was so shitty around there. Next time (if it's still there) ill come fully stocked :D

went on line but cant copy and past or download the page to paste here. Its on page 8 bottom left of page small blurb about it

I heard the contract is up with the track. Things got switched around this year because the track sold off some land probably to ease their finances. It will probably get moved somewhere else.

Last time i took the car can't even remember the year going to say 98 we stayed inin a motel in orient ohio. My room was right next to the pool. There was a southern Baptist youth group staying there and we watched them arrive. Whole school bus full of black kids. They played in that pool till 1 am. I swear the diving board sounded like it was mounted to my motel wall. My car was parked clise by the pool and i remember thinking I'm going to wake up with my car having been used as a diving board. Kids didn't damage a thing, but i got zero sleep went to show for several hours and told my buddies im done heading home, sold my weekend pass to a friend for half price and home i went.

i believe your correct on the circumstances thanks

Anyone remember when it was at the Chelsea prooving grounds? My friend had 71 curious yellow roadrunner 4 speed, and his buddy had 67 r/t cloan. At that time you could get on the banked test track, yellow runner speedometer was reading 130, guy said that 67 coronet came up under him and accelerated past him. Got back off track and guy said speedometer was at 150 in the coronet could never be allowed to go like that again.
