Anybody Out There An A Body Guru?

"Rumbling up to school in an early Duster will definitely be cool"
I can't wait for the school detention story Runner.:D
Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth-
Somebody I know, uhhhhh
Got 3 days detention for filling the cafeteria with tire smoke.
Long 3 days, but I, uhhhh - he was cool after that.:rofl:

Is he gonna have his done before you have your RR done! LOL, that pictures doesn't look any different than when I saw it 3 years ago! hahahahahahaha
FYI- Idrive, 2 years ago, good to see you are still breathing. The doors and fenders are on for an initial fitting since you last saw it. Welding the frame rail connectors in this Saturday. You're welcome to come by and observe but stay the hell out of the way.

A Volvo? That is just crazy. My Dad bought me one to use as a winter car in 1983 when I got my license. Parked my Cuda the first 2 winters, and my Duster the next. Think it was a 144. He had another one that my Mom drove, I believe a 264. He thought they were the safest cars made at the time.
I own three of them plus one SAAB. The engineering is rock solid. My 850 has 350K miles on it and runs as strong as ever. 32 MPG and doesn't use a drop of oil. Very easy and logical to work on and maintain.

I'm a Mopar guy at heart but I have never seen 350K miles out of one. For a day to day driver you can't beat the Swedish engineering IMHO.

Tell me I'm wrong.

I didn`t read all these posts. And a duster is not one of my favorite a bodies, but they can be made really cool w/ work. A friend and my ex partner ran one for a few yrs, ran low 9`s , had to back the throttle linkage off to 9.60`s to keep it together. The fastest one I ever saw was a pro mod, it raised the front wheels bad out of the hole, he got out of it, and up it came w/ gear change, and he got out of it again. when he crossed the 1/4 finish line he was on his rear wheels and tripped the lights w/ them. --- Not that this has much to do w/ ur deal, I`d say go for it if u haven`t already. I`m on fabo, my avatars are of my 68 fastback.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't want to slow you down!!!!

Spoken like a man without children. :icon_fU:
By God when I get a chance to do something on the 68 I go for it. That's the only way it will ever get done.

You coming by to observe or not?
Be here by 9:30 if you are. It will be a treat to see a "true" Runner undergo some surgery.

Time to resurrect this thread. Not a B Body but wanted to share it with you guys. The FABO site isn't as fun as chatting with you fine gentlemen over here. B Body guys talk more **** for some reason.

Between making a living and every spare minute spent working on the Duster (instead of my Roadrunner) I'll give you you the reader's digest version of what has been done in bullet form. As with any resto project, it's like an onion, the more you peel, the more you find unacceptable. This was to be a blow and go driver project but I have a hard time blowing and going.

Did I mention I wish I was working on my Bird instead of an A Body?

  • Tore seats out and found floor pans rusted out (should have looked closer from the underside)
  • Replaced floor pans
  • Got to looking at other parts of the interior we thought we could live with, decided we couldn't, tore them out.
  • Interior totally gutted
  • Painted the top part of the dash B5, decided that the rest of the dash looked like ****
  • Gutted the dash and repainted it on the car
  • Went through the wiring top to bottom, replaced, corrected where needed
  • Shot the interior (doors, quarter trim etc.)
  • My son decided he liked the B5 so much that he wanted the whole car B5 after masking the doors for a different exterior color. Damn.
  • Jambs sprayed
  • Engine compartment stripped and painted
  • Engine compartment re-built
  • On to re-assembly of the interior
  • Loving the time with my son. His vocabulary has grown.

  • We can see the light at the end of the tunnel unless we hit another unforeseen obstacle.
  • I'm sure I skipped over several steps, pics below.
  • Make note of how a car is restored and not purchased RC.

That’s cute, a small block, lol! Just yanking the chain a bit. Your doing s fine job and the boy is learning some new words, gotta love it!

The color is very nice, my buddy’s Duster is the same color and also s 4 speed. Your hard work is gonna pay off.

LMAO. Thanks for the input 5.7, at least it ain't a leaning tower of power slant 6. BTW isn't a 5.7 a small block?
5.2 is only half a Coke bottle smaller than your late model Hemi. :carrot:

Trust me, I'm already fending the kid off from wanting to shove a 440 into an A body. He's seen too many Crop Duster videos.

I hear ya, that’s why I put in a stroked 400 in my 69’ Dart GT.

A quick update for you guys on the B Side. You all over here seem to be a little more enthusiastic than the guys on the A side.
  • Interior 85% in.
  • New exhaust in
  • Tranny flushed and inspected (not totally gone through)
  • Brakes gone through (Rears re-built, fronts patched pending VIN inspection from the state, they work, disc conversion going in after the inspection.)
  • VIN inspection this week
For what it's worth RC, in response to your post #17, we're about $6K in at this point including the cost of the car. I figure $10K by the time it's all said and done.
Driver, remember? It won't be placed on Barrett Jackson's any time soon.

Well ****, that thing is looking good. Slap some paint on it, or not, drive the snot out of it.

I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  • Front end re-built
  • Disc brake kit installed
  • Alignment done
  • Put about 50 miles on it just cruising around town. FN drives great.
  • Pushing to get the body work on the @ss end wrapped up, back on stands now
  • **** load of welding
Hey RC, since you were so gracious to point out the fact that this wasn't a 70 or 71 by looking at the marker lights in the first pictures of this, your knowledge is obviously deep and I appreciate it. The fact that detail jumped out at you impressed me. Now I have a test for you. Tell me if the last pic is the correct beauty ring and center cap on Rallyes for a 72 Duster with the SBP.

Just my dry sense of humor. RC is that bear in the woods you don't want to poke. If he sees it, I think he'll laugh. The guys sense of humor and knowledge are legendary. :asskiss: Didn't mean to interrupt...mopar on

Yea, I thought it was you.
What happened, did you fill up the amount of posts allowed under one user name and Joey let you start another profile or is moparsaver the alter ego of the infamous Dick Head?

I was dead serious, is that rim correct or not? You know better than I. A Bodies aren't my bag.
