1969 Roadrunner, 383, 4 speed.....where are all the numbers located to see if they are all matching?

To start, the VIN on the dash should be on the fender tag, engine pan rail, transmission pad, and trunk gutter... if you're lucky it will have a build sheet with the VIN.
From there, check part#s and/or date codes on the radiator, carb, distributor, alternator, starter, rear axle, glass, hoses, wires, rims..... every damn part.

Numbers matching means many things to many people....

Some people have Holley carb, msd ignition and pump wheels and consider their car numbers matching because it has the original block. I think numbers matching should be much closer to assembly line correct.

Matching numbers engine and transmission. Pic courtesy of RC. I stoled it :xscuseless:

I had a conversation today with a fellow that told me they had a summer student working at Chrysler one time, the leadhand gave him the stamps for the engine block and told him to stamp the numbers. The leadhand was called away for a bit and when he returned the student had punched the same number on every block that came by. No one told him that every block was different. Told him not to say a word. 6cyl's could have been Hemi's that day!

I also worked with a guy that used to work, at Chrysler in Windsor. He told me that engines were stolen off the assembly line, and the forklift operator would get them out the back door. The line didn't stop, you just stuck the next engine into the next car.

This is how assembly lines work, don't stop for nothing. Even today with ISO, what ever # it's at now, there are still screw ups. What do you think, was happening in the '60's, let alone the Monday and Friday cars.

If the VIN and the title match that's good enough for me ! If someone wants big bucks for a car he would need to do the work to show the numbers !

I’ve always considered numbers matching to be - vin, block, rad support, tranny, trunk gutter, fender tag to be good enough for numbers matching. If you have the build sheet that’s a bonus. I may have missed something that is essential - but beyond what I’ve pointed out it gets a bit ridiculous. Pls someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I think you are 100% correct GetX'd. The name says it all....."number matching". If the vin, block, rad support, tranny, trunk gutter, fender tag numbers match, you have a "numbers matching" car. It's just that simple.

Can i get more specific.....where on radiator suppprt is number?
Where on 383 block?
Tranny must be on side of it?
Trunk gutter? So the rubber seal needs to be removed somewhere?
Thanks again.

So i found some numbers on the top of rad support, on the motor side of it....i assume those are the ones? What about the locations on the other components?

Where is the engine tag on 383?
Is trunk gutter under the weatherstrip somewhere?

LOL.. can you not see the weather strip being held back. Driver's side, close to mid way usually.

Engine partial VIN stamp on passenger side pad right behind the engine mount.
