Steering Column spline coupler whatchacallit..

Reviving this thread...

I am switching out the pot (huh-huh) coupler to put a rebuilt one (plus the aforementioned clamp) to my Dart.

Now Im stuck.

This is all in-car mind you...I punched out the roll pin, but I cannot get the coupler off of the shaft...and I do not remember how the hell I did it on the GTXer many moons ago. I thought one did not have to disassemble the column to get the inner shaft to move back just a CH to wiggle the coupler up and out.

I will post pics shortly

Any help would be much appreciated
Have you tried heating it up?

I do have an FSM and have read it fastidiously; but with 5 different car lines referenced, it has not become clear.

Take it apart and recrimp, the add the clip in post 2.
I'll be darned, I didn't know that goofy little clip even existed. I've been using a zip tie this whole time and before that it was just flopping around on there loose.

I used a pickle fork. After I sprayed it down with WD.

blonde, red, brown or black?

(in increasing order of thickness)

R U trying to slid the box shaped coupler off of the splined shaft? Did u remove the set roll pin from it? or allen head plug? If so then I believe that thing will only slid up just so far without unbolting the column and yanking back on it. Still not coming then slid a big crow bar down below it and smack that with a BFH.

Yep. Punched the roll pin out already and it moves back and forth, but it wont come off. I took a pry bar to the bottom end of the coupler (near the steering gear) and it'll move back, but the steering shaft wont move back enough to slide it out. Im worried that if I smack it with a BFH, it may crack the little plastic bits (shear pins?) in the column
