Two ?s First I received my replacement seal/cap/spring assy from DMT today. How do I get the coupler off the steering shaft
Bend cover tabs out. Lift cover and seal. Push coupler dowel pin outward. Slide coupling off. Catch all the parts that fall out!
Abody but maybe this can help............ https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopa...r-lower-column-bearing-better-and-cheaper.66/
I was thinking about doing something similar. I think I could just Mic everything and order a collar bearing.
I just made a deal on a 64 Auto column. Will modify and add a removable steering wheel. It's getting harder to climb over the door bar.I have the original manual column in there now. That gets traded for the 64
Column is put of car. I need to get the coupler off the column. Then find a collar bearing to replace the missing bushing. (I may have one in the archives)
I used a couple of those big fender clamps to hold the new seal and ring together while I beat the clips into submission...worked out well.
The DMT Grommet/Cap/Retainer clip seems to work. I may have put too much grease back in the coupler. Probably won't be a big deal
No,it can be done in the car,but maybe it would be easier to pull it IDK.I changed to a flaming river and did it IN the car.
I also want to get a bearing for the column shaft where it comes through the fireWall. Will also trim the column tube flush with the firewall.Set the engine back a few inches
What am I looking at in the first picture? Some sort of an aftermarket brace for the top of the manual steering box?
Yes.When you have the milodon pump the motor mount/steering box mount has to be modified. When the majority of the mount is cut away this brace holds the box very nicely!! PM me if you would like to buy one.
I use zip ties in an "X" pattern. If you place the ends carefully and trim the excess, it's not very noticeable at all.
Reviving this thread... I am switching out the pot (huh-huh) coupler to put a rebuilt one (plus the aforementioned clamp) to my Dart. Now Im stuck. This is all in-car mind you...I punched out the roll pin, but I cannot get the coupler off of the shaft...and I do not remember how the hell I did it on the GTXer many moons ago. I thought one did not have to disassemble the column to get the inner shaft to move back just a CH to wiggle the coupler up and out. I will post pics shortly Any help would be much appreciated
