Anyone eating Lutefisk this season?

I signed up for a dinner at the local Son's of Norway for Nov. 10th. It's kind of penance for the sin of being Norwegian.

My Mom and Dad used to always eat the lutefisk at the church dinners every holiday season. Even smothered in butter, it still stunk. Uff Dah! For us kids, we just ate the lefse.
 
It's better than surströmming!

I have eaten some weird stuff in my life like scrapple, sea urchin, stuffed squid( Dad called it bait) Menudo but never Lutefisk. Willing to give it a try though. One thing I wot try is those Eggs they bury for like a thousand years, Hey they made Andrew Zimmurn GAG. Sicilian squid in ink sauce is OooLaLa. Cant wait to get to New Orleans for Boudin.
 
Never heard of it, so I looked it up.

Lutefisk or lutfisk is a traditional dish of some Nordic countries. It is traditionally part of the Norwegian julebord and Swedish julbord. It is made from aged stockfish or dried/salted whitefish and lye. It is gelatinous in texture. Its name literally means "lye fish".

One thing I wot try is those Eggs they bury for like a thousand years,

I have no personal experience with those eggs but I had a friend (since passed) who spent 3 months in China and that was pretty much all he could afford to eat. He said they actually aren't that bad. And they're only called "thousand year eggs", they're buried for a significantly shorter time !!
 
My wife is of Norse origin. We have a deal....I'll try lutefisk if she'll try some keyma (I'm half Armenian, that's our version of beef tartare--raw beef tenderloin ground with onions, parsley, salt, pepper and a little wheat bulgur) Yeah...so far it hasn't happened.

I will for sure try the keyma.
 
We eat it every christmas, it had to be done correctly or it isn't yummie, sad I can't invite you all for dinner.

Balut,, Lutefisk, MukTuk, Mikt,, moose nose jelly. Casi Marzu....
I think I'll stick to the vomit that comes up everytime I think about eating any of this....
My grandparents were from Poland and the Ukraine and some of the traditional meals were a little different , kazanka blood sausage, noski- pigs feet, but the only one I couldn't stand was czarna...duck blood soup. Grandma would put a lot of prunes to sweeten it but yuuck!!!

Aaah duck blood soup...I've tried that and couldn't stand it even before they told me what it was!
It's funny how so many cultures have so much great food, and then a famously disgusting one..
