69, 383, heater hose shut-off valve?.....

It's nice to have heat when it's cold out.....

Coming from a FL guy ! You don't needed it ! Just another place for a leak ! But if you get cold you might want it !

I don’t think that’s a factory valve. I believe the coolant flows through the heater core all the time and the damper controls the heat. (Unless it’s an A/C car).

Get cold?
Why wouldnt i have heat without it?

A generic cable-operated valve used in some Dodge trucks, often used as a replacement for the factory valve that's sometimes hard to find.
Operates just like the factory cable-operated valve but, without a cable hooked up, you'll need to open/close it from under the hood.

Yes, am aware of how it works, just wondered why its on the car when i bought it.....without it, wouldnt i just turn temp down to turn off heat? Not sure why its there

You are correct. The valve does not belong on a non-AC car. The only reason this would be used is if there's something wrong in the heater box that wouldn't allow you to turn the heat off inside the car like normal.

I have one similar to that on my GTX. Reason? The blend door in my heater box rusted and broke off its' pivot, rendering it useless.
Trust me, the car gets friggin hot enough inside in the summer without the heat being on all the time, so the little plastic one I
got from NAPA is worth its' weight in gold.

It's not OEM and you don't NEED it. Why it's there, only the previous owner can tell you. Perhaps he had a leaky heater core and diced to shut off the supply rather than bypass it. That's the only logical reason I can come up with.

In the summer you don't want any hot coolant circulating through the heater core at all!
Other than disconnecting the heater core, you're just shutting off the flow with the valve.
You don't want to roast your nuts!

Living in NY, summers get pretty warm and shutting off the heat to the heater core may prevent extra heat in the cabin. I plumbed a ball valve in the line to shut it off in the summer and turn it back on in the winter.

I've also seen these but threaded to do a system flush . Get rid of it in my opinion unless you have a core issue .
