There getting worse and worse lately. My wife does not sleep well and often will rest during the day. She does not like to shut the phone ringer off. These calls are insane and i will have to investigate how to stop some of them.
What i see happening now is on the caller ID, sometimes it say "spam" but other times its what seems to be legit names. So i pick up and its not that person or company but a telemarketer! Those tricky SOB's they have it all figured out. I have to find out how they do that and is that legal

Either get rid of your landline (you really don't need it), or if you have an old style phone with a msg machine hooked up to it, leave an extremely lengthy greeting msg on it, at least one minute or more. This will prevent the robocallers from leaving a msg. Otherwise just don't answer it. Why does your wife not want to turn off the ringer?

They spoof local numbers so you think they are legit. I need to answer the phone at work, so I give them 2 seconds to see if it is a robo call, and then I hang up.

Yeah we noticed that we’ll get a call that Comcast stops as known robo numbers. Then phone rings again and it shows as being from a “local” number, total spoofing on a local number. That’s why I keep my land line.

Getting rid of the land line is one approach as FWI stated. We still have ours as it really doesn't cost anything to keep it. We use it mainly for calling out. We have hand sets in just about every room in the house. I don't always have my cell phone by my side. All the ringers are shut off on the land lines. If it's important, they'll leave a message. Robo calls don't.

We haven't had a landline for 6 years. Robocalls come in to our cell phones often, sometimes even from our own numbers! But they can never leave msgs, because I have left a 5 minute long rant on my greeting.

I do not answer the phone, unless the caller ID shows a name and number, I know. I let the machine answer, and it gives a message that says "I screen all my calls, leave a message with your name and number, and I will return your call ASAP". When the person starts talking, I can pick up if I want to talk to them, or call them back later if a legitimate call. Spammers usually don't leave a message. This is on my land line. On my cell, I can't listen to the message untill after the caller hangs up. Then I can return their call, if they left a legitimate message. In both cases, I can then program that name and number, into my contacts list, if a legitimate call

The problem I have with cell phones is that the majority of incoming calls still say unknown name /unknown number or private name/number.If there is a number unless you know the person's number that is calling, you still don't know who's calling until you answer.

Why doesnt she turn off the ringer? You tell me, i cant figure women out LOL...Well seriously, her mom is why and mom has that medic alert so God forbid we get a call. Also if any emergency, important things she does not want to miss. All of that we accept, even the occasional nuisance call but the other day i was home and got four of them within a half hour!
Your right, i do have to tell her shut the ringer. If I'm home and i know she is resting i take the phone out of the room.

Hey Steve....Tell them you are busy eating dinner.....

Ha ha...Just messing with you.

The last one I talked to was some foreign dude from east Asia. I asked him to speak American. He asked me if I wanted to speak to Trump.

I get calls on my cell, calls at the shop, calls on the land line. Mostly I just ignore.. specially the one s w numbers very close to mine. Sometimes I pick up...... and say nothing... they hag up quick. Other times (and it will take guys in the "club" to get this... ) I answer ... Eddie??? Is that you Eddie?? Eddie is that you??? I can go on and on and on , and then laff my azz off!

Eddie...That sounds familiar. Spill it!

I have another strategy. I have a 50 minute comute home from work, so I have time to talk. If I happen to get a call while I am driving home from work, I talk to to whoever is trying to sell me whatever. I act all interested and ask many questions. I keep the conversation going for 15 or 20 minutes. Then if the person is a guy I say, "That all sound pretty good, I am interested. Tell you what.... drop the paperwork off at your mom's house and I will sign it when I stop by to see her later tonight." If the person is a female, I say,"That all sounds good. Tell you what, before I commit, I have one more thing that you might be able to help me with.... can you go down on me to the point that when I blow my load, my cum runs out of your nose?" I've done this a few times; and I've gotten all sorts of reactions. And, believe it or not, I do get fewer calls than I used to.

I really wish that our Government would make ALL unsolicited robo calls completely illegal. I don't know anyone who is not annoyed by them. If they would make them all illegal, it would be a simple matter to "accept" what is being pushed, and then we would have a way to contact or find those behind this crap and prosecute. We could put a stop to this crap in a couple of months!

Seriously. Who would buy a product or service from someone who blows up your cell phone, wont remove your number from the list no matter how many times you press 2, and is just a general annoyance?

it must work enough times to be profitable or they would have stopped a long time ago.

I believe they are mostly illegal. If a business is someone you have some form of direct relationship with they are allowed to call you. Unfortunately it may extend out to their partner firms which could be endless. It’s an $1100 fine for each time they call you after the first time I believe. Problem has been enforcing the law. How do the do it? They are changing as of this Congress to be a $15,000 fine for each unsolicited call. Still a big part of the problem is enforcement and the fact that many of these firms are out of the country and can’t be touched. Again the government is going to step up their efforts because people are fed up with this **** and their homes are getting them too! I still recommend disconnecting the land line. We did about 3 years ago and it’s been peace in the valley ever since.
