My 383 is being rebuilt, all stock using good parts. 30 over forged pistons and a mild cam with whatever Road Runner specs were. Im using HP exhaust manifolds. I was thinking of using the Edelbrock performer manifold which is said good for idle to 5000RPM and a 600 CFM Edelbrock performer carb. I dont know if i should go with manual or electric choke.
What do you think? Thanks

Electric for me everytime. Turn on the key, pump the pedal once and fire it up.

The electric is probably a better choice. I have a 1405 manual choke and it works fine but the electric is more convenient.

I'd prefer electric myself.

Hi Steve, the Edelbrock Performer manifold is a good choice for your application I've Run on a stock 426 Street wedge and it perform great with a Carter 750 carb. Manual choke or Electric I prefer manual old school, that's just me.

Definitely electric choke. Start out a bit on the lean side on the adjustment and a little adjustment at a time until it will not quit from lack of fuel.

Steve,

Electric choke is the right way to go, simple and reliable. Manual choke you risk flooding the engine if you forget to take off the choke right away. Edelbrock carb and intake are available as a kit look for sales on summit and Jegs.

There is a zero, ZERO performance gain from a manual choke.

Electric choke. Go with the 650 avs instead of the performer 600. 650works great on mild built low deck 600 may experience starvation at WOT.

Did you go with one of the new 383 piston offerings or the tried and true 2315?

I think the std Performer is a good choice. It will rpm much higher than 5000 rpm. If you don't want to leave any power on the table, consider a larger carb.

Thanks, I dont know what piston the rebuilder is using except that its forged. I will find out

On my bone stock 383 RR rebuild a Edelbrock Performer with a 650 AVS performed flawlessly. Electric choke for street applications.

Just rebuild a 440 .060 over with a mild cam and aluminium heads. Used a Performer intake with a 1/2 inch 4 hole spacer and a 650 AVS2.
Works really well, just had to use the strongest step up spring since it has 18 vacuum at idle.

18 inches of vacuum and my dual brake booster would work a lot better !

Yes, the one i am working one now has barely 9 at idle, if you have to park, second time you brake it turns into a manual brake much easier then you want to :)
