Electric fan for drag car

I'm contemplating going to an electric fan on my drag car. Anybody have a suggestion on what CFM fan to use . . . or that I can get away with. I'd like to keep the amp draw as low as possible. I've done some research and it appears that the higher the cfm, the higher the amp draw. Previously I had been using the old school Moroso electric water pump drive with a flexalite fan.

"the man" I have used and still use the same cooling set-up as you, forever. It allows me to control engine temp and I've not found a reason to change.

Your correct about amp/cfm. I use a dual setup from a late model Charger/Challenger/300. Both fans running together pull 25-30 Amps. I can run one or both. It'll cooldown in 90 degree weather in less than 5 minutes to 140.

A single 2 speed fan works great, especially if you use a PWM controller. I installed one from Rainbow Products with their controller on a 6.1 Hemi, works awesome, but it can draw up 50 amps. Now the thing with a PWM (pulse width modulation) is there isn’t a sudden hit/spike to the electrical system. It ramps up and down as needed by your set temperature. Plus it’s quiet as hell. Can’t really hear it at all.

it's more of a street beast/drag car in search of a corner
I live in the sticks, windy mountain roads, at elevation

I've use similar set up on my old drag car, a 68 RR too

I use 2 Perma-cool electric fans
pretty shallow in design only stands off like 3-1/8" to 3-1/4"
(I have a thicker alum. 3 core rad., so it is sort of tight)

1 Perma-Cool 13" prm-19113 Summit Racing, aux. pusher (outside)
alum Blade pusher rated at 2600 cfm, at 5-6 amp full draw
(now they are rated at 3000cfm) reversible blade, to push or pull/draw
for just in case, it's rarely ever used at all (or you can reverse polarity too)

fan is rated at 2950cfm @ 6-8amps, at full draw (moves some serious air)
reversible blades to push or draw/pull (or you can reverse polarity)

& also an electric water-pump 35-37gpm from Pro-form
fits right in the M/P alum (or OE style) water-pump housing

everything is wired/ran thru Bosche 30 amp relays,
& an override arming switches, Painless panel for my electronics

car stays right at around 180*-190* even driving it in Calif. summer heat
cruising, on just the 16" fan, the 13" is for just in-case
it gets 'really hot' stuck in traffic or cruising etc.
I can cool it off quicker, never needed it or rarely

I don't use a thermostat either,
I use a restrictor where the thermostat would go
with an open appr. 5/8" hole, to help slow the water/flow down a bit
so it helps/stays in the radiator (an MRE Alum. 3 core, down flow, 22")
long enough to help cool it
