Gentlemen,
I am looking to do an electronic ignition conversion on my and I'm getting lost in the options. Last time I did this on another car, I bought a factory e.e. distributor from ebay, orange box and conversion harness and i think about $200 had me running good. Bottom line up front, I don't race, engine is mild and don't need a rev limiter, and the car is not seeing extreme cold temps or anything like that. Just a cruiser.

Recently, I have been reading that the new mopar boxes are chinese garbage, looking at other options like:

the cheap pertronix , $86 and goes inside my factory distributor

Proform 66991 kit on summit, cheapest option for new distributor, cap, rotor, harness and box at $136

Summit SUM850003 kit, same as above but cost $200.

Final option,
Buy the new summit mopar ECU and conversion harness, and buy a used 340 vac advance EE distributor from the forum.

What do you guys think? Am i overthinking this and getting too deep in my research?

I installed the Mopar-licensed Proform kit about a month ago. Big fan. Was surprised by the high quality of the parts I got. Car is running great.

MSD6AL with MSD Billet Dizzy works really well for me. It cost a bit more but proven over time.

Love my Pertronix drop-in ignitions. I have a II and a III. Keeps stock look, super easy to install, bypass ballast resistor. Use the electronic black box available on eBay and use the matching Flamethrower coil.

What is wrong with a simple points distributor? EASY to install, easy to service and super reliable.
I run points on a 65 Dart 318 and a 67 Dart with a 360. I've had the '67 since 2005 and never changed the points. It starts easy and runs great.

I would do a kit from Manicni Racing, they have one with a Firecore distributor. Firecore makes a great distributor, been running one for 6 years and zero problems. I like the factory style electronic ignition because if something craps out you can find parts at about any parts store. Just keep a cheap ECU in the truck. Can't always find an MSD or a Pertronix Ignitor.

I didn't catch your engine size, but here is a sample of the Mancini kit.

How do they even make any money on this? This is a cheap solution and if reliable looks like what the OP is asking for. Interesting!

What if your truck is at home and you are in the car 200 miles away ?

That’s exactly what I do. I am running the Firecore dizzy with chrome box, 0.8 ohm ballast and the MSD Blaster II epoxy filled coil and zero problems. The big win on the Firecore distributor is you can adjust the mechanical timing by opening it up and adjusting some screws to move the slot width. No welding and grinding. I like it so much I keep a spare in the trunk but will likely not need it for a long time.
Then keep the spare in the car for the win?

This is what I’ve been doing the past 25 years,distributor wore out,got a new firecore,started great,ran great,shaft broke after 20 miles,no return.dont buy that cheap junk

You broke the shaft in a Firecore and nobody would warranty it? Where did you buy it?
