1969 RR 3 speed wiper switch

I was putting the dash back together and hooked up the wiper switch. I went to test it and got a shock and smoke. What the hell, it was working before. I tuned it off and found the pink wire melted a little. I have a brand new dash harness so I don't know whats going on. Could it be a bad switch, it was working before. Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

Dash is grounded, I was in the process of installing the dash. Installed new circuit board, new wire harness, everything works fine. The wipers do work but I get a shock when I touch it and sometimes when I push the gauge in to the console to install it smokes. Whats the pink wire, that's seems a little melted. I have a new switch coming.

that is part of ground,gauges mounted. Rallye or standard gauges? Why new circuit board? pink could be glove box light,headlight switch,a pic would help.

regular gauges, looks like the pink wire goes to the flasher from the wiper switch. New circuit board because half of the lights and the temp gauge didn't work.

No 3 speed switch, 3 speed motor.

I would think flasher wire would be constant power,did a wire get nicked? How about unplug wiper switch and see if all works. If so I would think the switch is bad.

That's just what I did and everything worked. When the switch was hooked up the flashers didn't work. Also the blinkers didn't work. I ordered a new switch, I'm just not sure the pink wire is ok.

flashers and blinkers are the same,did you mean turn signals? did blinkers work and wipers before you changed the harness?

Yes turn signals. They worked before this and they work now. They did not work when wiper switch was hooked up. I am thinking that the pink wire may have got nicked like you said pushing the switch into the frame, it is at the top near the frame.

Doesn't the pink wires go to the light package? The pink wire plug in that area would go to the ignition switch light.

I have a colored wire diagram and the top of the switch where the pink wire is goes to the flasher. then the red wire from the flasher goes to the directional signal switch connector, whatever that is.

According me the pink wire from the 3-speed wiper switch is incoming 12V.
If you follow the schematics it is tied into a black wire that leads to the fuse box.
You mentioned that at the time the switch was hooked up the flashers did not work, which is fed by the same feed/fuse.
Could be indeed your switch is bad and making a short.

Hmm, you are correct. I think it may be a bad switch too, I ordered one for a hefty freegan $198! I also saw evidence of me scuffing the pink wire while trying to push the switch into the frame, I had to put black tape on it. I wonder why the fuse didn't blow?

Too heavy fuse?
I know there are several fuses that have a metal link between them on the input side to i believe share 12V supply.
If you would connect the wire of that particular circuit on the wrong side of the fuse it always will have 12 volt and is not protected by a fuse.
Have a good look at your fuse box first, disconnect battery and check that the supply to that black wire (where the pink ones ties off on) is installed correctly and that the fuse amperage rating is correct.
Saves from being struck again and prevent a potential melt down somewhere of worse case scenario a fire.

The whole wiring harness is new including the fuse block. Because of that I don't think it hooked up incorrectly. But you never know!

Maybe some twat had his/her eyes still closed on Monday morning assembling you wiring harness.
