Started on my Scarebird install. Got everything off, including the drum backing plate and “ping” the car jumped up a few inches. Is there any way to get the lower control arm back up without dropping the torsion bar??? Any ideas would be appreciated, car is stripped so it’s too light to jack.

put a bolt back in thru the top of the arm there with a short piece of chain or just use the comealong
throw a piece of rubber up there behind the top arm section way up in that notch/crevice there to avoid damaging the upper and run the cable along that and use a comealong to get it back up????

That’s worth a shot!!! I’ll let you know if it works.

without weight and or relieving the torsion bar and the removal of the sway bar....you only working at a preset unladed condition given you still have your upright (spindle) in place and ball joints firmly attached.....you should be able to continue the install....now if you need to swap out the upright (spindle) you going to need to back off on the preloads...

hey im looking at the outboard sections too,
whichever is easier angles and doesnt ruin any parts is the way you should go and
make sure you run the comealong cable way out around the arms Twice,
so youll have enough to crank them arms in And be able to release it when done

Ed, please loosen up this bolt to continue!

First step is to go buy yourself a service manual before you hurt yourself. Then back off the torsion bar adjusting bolt like you should've in the first place. Once the load is removed from the spring you can easily move the LCA. You do not need a come along or weight on the car or straps. Hard to believe that in just a few replies you got a bunch of really bad advice. Makes it tough for people to come ask questions when they get answers like that.

Also, why are you messing with the Scarebird stuff when you can just bolt in disc brake knuckles? Disc brakes are a bolt on for early B body cars. Only thing you need for the conversion is a different brake hose.

Thanks for the advice. I have one for a 65, just been kind of winging it from that. The torsion bar adjustment is, in fact, backed out. I assume that’s why I’m not too far off. As for the Scarebird setup, it is highly recommended all over this website.

Glad everyone is ok. Thanks.

Well... I THOUGHT it was backed out!!! It took half a day and a whole can of PB Blaster (and a rather large breaker bar) but I got it to back out some more. Thank you guys for all your help. Your wisdom is truly appreciated!
