Chrome Electronic Ignition

No sweat the ride both ways and a beer is fine. Amazing how many have been sent to me.

Not saying it's the right way but, if there was doubt if a unit was having problems we would remove them and check the back to see if it was overheated. Usually you would find the epoxy would have allot of bubbles,discoloration, stuff like that.They still might work but just not right. I had a Volare' come in and there was streaks of epoxy that dripped out of it. Still ran.When they first came out,the factory rep told us to space them out with a few washers for a air gap and sand the paint off for a good ground.

There is a spacer for them I think it is used mostly on E bodies.

Yes I had one of those from a 72 B Body. I have also seen them for the electronic voltage regulator.

FWIW, the Gold box used a low ohm resister (.5?) and special coil. MP sold the coil as well. I can’t remember what they said the rpm range was good to. Something crazy like 12K.

I run a chrome box on my Magnum w/a 360 warmed up. I’ve found the box to work excellent with zero issues.
I found no strip performance advantage with the MSD on lower performance mills. But I did find a definite mileage advantage with the street cars and getting a bit better mileage. The Orange box did nothing for me personally.
Mancini sells there own version (if in stock still) as well as (again, if in stock) the Revenator and/or the FBO box.

I haven’t run the Revenator set up but I have run Don’s FBO system. It worked very well. He claims better than the chrome box but as I sit in the seat driving, I can’t tell the difference. It worked wonderfully. The track would tell you though. The FBO box worked for years until I sold the car.

I’d like to find another MP Chrome box but that is a little hard unless you have time to wait and gamble on a used (eBay) box. For a hot street set up using the OEM wires and looking system, I’d have no problems going right back to FBO for a set up.

Heres the info I found in the old FABO thread;

I've no idea the vintage of that chart, but I would not be surprised if it was 30 years old.

......….but I would not be surprised if it was 30 years old.
'80-'89 per the MP book.

FWIW, Here's the 534 chrome box and .25 ohm ballast that came in my TD conversion kit late '80s. The coil P3690560 was no longer available. Accel 140306 was Mopars (per Koller Dodge) recommended replacement and a separate purchase like the VR ...……..
