Hello -

Is there any reproduction woodgrain that looks correct for the dash in the GTX ?

I have seem some and they are WAY WRONG.

I am pretty sure that trying to find NOS is a impossibility. Unless someone out there has a set squirreled away somewhere.. :)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bill

Whatever you do, do NOT buy the repro stuff from Year One. Fitment is not even close.
They never replied to my complaint either - shocking behaviour really.

The grain and finish is close....but the Font is terrible, and the material does not wrap around the inside of the holes for the switches & gauges....

I ended up using an adhesive set from White Gauges.....

While not original or close to OE....they fit nice and the font is close to original. You get to choose from 3 x different colour finishes also....

I was by his place last week talking to him about the repro panels ...
not lots of good news.

Ideally a set of OEM woodgrains in very nice shape
or I will just pay for NOS - the car deserves OEM/NOS parts... LOL

Thanks for all the great feedback and ideas!

To bad Dave didn't have any viable option and that makes it very challenging...

NOS would be near impossible...Sometimes the NOS is either different from the "factory line" part or due to age/storage may not be the best as well......Never say never, sometimes one can get lucky.......I would cringe at the idea of price price for a complete NOS set in nice shape if found....

Since the car deserves NOS/original parts....Post some pics of this car...Being a "true" OE car junkie as myself. I would enjoy to see some pics....

Will try to get some pictures ..
The reason I want OEM or NOS is just because of what it is ..
the car was a MESS - needed some metal work etc.. but it did sit for a very long time at one place.

not a whole lot of 440+6, 4spd, 4.10 dana GTXs floating around.
also N96 Air Grabber too.

has orig fender tag, dash vin plate and numbers on the core support and trunk lip.

this one was no vinyl top and was ordered with no hood treatment.
and surprisingly was ordered with hood pins but factory did not install (orig hood no cutouts and nothing on the fenders.)

otherwise - all standard GTX options ( nothing fancy like PW, rear def, leather .....).

Your preaching to the choir about NOS/OE parts.........Thats ALL I deal with.....Reproduction parts are junk.......

Not a whole lot of GTX's period floating around of any options......I would just like to see some pics.....

So I take it the original drivetrain is gone?

Dana and 4spd transmission ORIG
car built 10/8/69
engine is a early dated 440HP block, has all the factory parts (crank, rods, pistons, heads, intake, carbs, distributer etc..)
top pad is never been messed with , but side pad for VIN is clean/unstamped.
Im sure its been replaced - but when I couldn't say.

An early 70 build....cool...

The Dana more than likely is original. An easy check is to look at the dates on the carrier assembly and ring gear....

Sounds like the typical 6 pack car......Someone blew the motor and the engine got replaced at some point.....So the dates on the heads, intake and carbs coincide with the build date?......If so it may have been a warranty replacement short block etc....Even though the original motor is gone sounds like a very interesting car.....Waiting for pics, no Rush...lol
