Ever bought a POS

Ive bought several but the 2 that come immediately to mind are

1. 98 Audi A5; complete POS!!! bought it for my son who had to have one. Bought at dusk, from a kid who promised all sorts of crap (new tires, etc.). Advertised as a 2000 with 60K, didn't look at the title and the odometer didn't work; was a 98 with 160K... was so pissed that I did it to myself... My son drove it for several years and then I gave it away.

2. 98 Dodge 3500 dually diesel that I had to have. Interior was toast, front suspension toast, but worse than all that was the cracked block. traded it in on my 14 2500 Hemi which I love (despite the endless recalls)

I like big tires and lifted vehicles, I know they wear suspension parts quicker, but I guess I didnt expect it so soon lol. Like I said before all the other things I'm ok with it's the trans that chaps my *** and makes everything else suck so much worse.

I put 33's on mine and had to make minor mods to do that but didn't do it to take it off road etc. 37's tells me it's going to go off road. I like going off road but it's usually with a 4 wheeler or a bike but my BIL has a new SUV type Jeep that's still stock except for better and a bit bigger tires and that thing does pretty good. He doesn't go crazy with it as it's pretty much only used to maintain an 880 acre tree farm and the terrain can get kinda bad after a good rain. He says it does a LOT better than the 98 TJ Wrangler he had and based on my experience with the 98, the new one is heads, arms.....whole body above it lol. It did cost a lot more though. So far I haven't driven the new one but can tell it's a lot better just riding shot gun and it rides MUCH quieter and better on the highway too.

I have 37's on my 14 2500 and 35's on my 01 1500 and I seldom ever go off road. I like the look but I also like to know that if I do need to go off road I can. Its truck hot rodding, making it your own, etc. I do not believe that big tires on a truck today means it has been off roaded or beat on, in fact the vast majority of trucks today with big tires probably never see anything other than pavement except for jumping the islands in the Walmart parking lot from time to time.

Well, I think that is kind of the point; too look "macho" but very few of them actually see off road use. In fact, if you talk to the real off road guys, they all complain about all of the trucks with mudders on them that never see mud, hell many of them don't see rain either...

I understand your point however. The same deal with performance cars, you automatically assume they have been beat on because... well that is what they were made for. The funny thing is that as it relates to factory performance cars (vettes, vipers, exotics, etc.) many times have been babied because the owners didn't want to risk them.

I've beat on lots of my cars.....but they seem to keep on taking it lol. I do take care of them other than beating them.

37's on it would have made me pass on it! Anyone that puts something like that on a vehicle is going to abuse it. Sorry, but that's me. Bought a 97 diesel in 2001 and it 'talked' to me. The only thing I wasn't crazy about is the guy had been pulling a 5th wheel with it (still had the hitch in the bed) and well, what else are these trucks built for. Everything else looked stock and it ran really well. In fact, it ran soooo much better than any other 5 year old truck that had been test driven. Btw, I still have it and the transmission is still working well...knock on wood but did have to finally replace the rearend gears recently but that might have been somewhat of a result of doing several smoky burnouts with it . Thing is, figured the trans would be the first to go and not the gears.

I have ran Dodge diesel trucks in one of my businesses since 1991. We have had about 19 of them total. Never had a transmission failure, but we do service the transmissions every 25 thousand miles like clock work. We also put 2-3 hundred thousand miles on every one of them.

I knew that going in. Wanted an 03-04 because it had 4 doors, no emissions and 2 injection events instead of 3 like 04.5 and up. 211k, Has new long arm 6" lift, new 37s, new Bilstiens, new water pump, thermostat, 5" driveshaft, 3" front driveshaft, calipers(I know), drilled slotted rotors and ceramics, 50+ injectors with 50k on them and all light were led converted. Actually if it wasnt for the tran leak I wouldn't care, it was rebuilt in October with 2k on it, **** kit, billet shaft, triple disc with paperwork and builder said too bad not the original owner. My bad on that I guess. Just grumpy now, after the trans its little stuff I can fix in an afternoon

Maybe that's why it leaks..

I service my transmissions more these days than ever before. Used to treat them like rear ends....as in never serviced lol. The 95 has had two trans services done but the rear end had never been done and by now, there's no use even bothering it!

The first and last Renault i ever buy, (2013 model) what a POS car, at around 20000 miles the crankshaft seal on the gearbox side begins to leak oil, in the dealership they told me that because I was 100 miles after the required mileage to do the service, the warranty was void then, the windshield begins to sound weird at high speed, turns out it wasn't properly installed, the plastics in the car another pos, also the leather, then this funny messages on the car's screen, IMMINENT DESTROY OF ENGINE SHUT IT DOWN NOW, what the hell was that, of course my wife in panic in the middle if the traffic yelling at me because she does not what to do, and am not there, then the letters on the buttons of the radio and such begins to fade, then the paint (tobacco brown, ) also begins to fade, the car cost me around 20 k I sold it for 5k worst business of my life, .

I buy a 2018 vw tiguan with 9500 miles but now I can clearly hear a cracking noise underside of the SUV, I check with two mechanics before I take the vehicle to the dealership, ( still under warranty) next Wednesday and turns out that the constant velocity joint have some end play and needs to be replaced because if it doesn't the gearbox get damaged due bad vibration from the joint, never ends.

As has been mentioned, it seems trucks like that are either well maintained or well neglected. Don't know what it is about amateur diesel owners. Oil change? Then the odometer mileage, where you've an engine (properly maintained) that can go quite a lot of miles in a chassis that isn't necessarily up to the task. I'm always wary of a seller with stacks of receipts for recent repairs. Always wonder why they're spending all that money to sell the thing. I too am put off by the addition of tall wires, lift kits, etc. Always makes me wonder.

Great point on the vehicle talking to you when test driving. I never thought of it in those terms, but so often I've found vehicles that actually seem to have some form of a personality.

That said, I've still picked up for than a few lemons over the years. Hope you get yours back on track and it stays there for you.
