Seemed like there is such a thing. You pay monthly for the ink supply.

I agree, it's all about the refill toner and cartridges! I bought my first laser printer, a re-pop Samsung CL 3175 WK off the Goldbay a while back. It lasted a whole month before the scanner made solid grey prints of what ever you scanned. Just after the printer I had bought a warranty to cover it from Square Trade fairly cheap as I recall. It worked out as they sent me another re-pop from the same seller. They didn't even want the failed unit back! So this new old one has been just fine over the years and the old one is in a box in the basement.

Amazoo wants 165 bucks for the three color toner kit. Black is separate for 72. Both throw in the white free!

I've been paying five cents a copy at a store across the street after having had problems after problems with printers. Last one was a "fatal error" after I let the cartridges run completely dry. Now it won't boot up again.

Oh man, that's the other thing with these printers, getting them set up after you buy a new one or if there is any interruption in power or it might just decide to glitch for no reason. My friend calls me up and tells me her printer isn't working, I'll have to stop by and go through all of the settings to get it to sinc again with all of her different devices. What a pita!

This cartridge scam has been going on for decades in my younger years I fix computers and install networks, and the printers was always the same, the prohibitive prices of the toner/ cartridge, generic ones have the quality problem but IIRC my solution to the problem like yours, was to clean up the printer head How ? Disassemble the printer and put the printer head in hot water.

I use remanufactured ink cartridges in my printer. They are at least half the price of the name brand ones. The problem with refilling yourself is that the cartridges have chips in there that lock the cartridge from being reused once they register as empty. They have to be replaced/reprogramed in order to reuse the same cartridge. I have 4 black and white laser printers at work that I print invoices on. There's a page counter chip on the toner cartridge. I found replacement chips on ebay and toner powder. It cost me about $10 to refill a cartridge, which sold for about $100. The drum on the cartridge used to last about 3-4 refills before they burned out. I finally found a place online that sells new toner cartridges that are in damaged boxes for about $20.
It's all big business and you just have to outsmart the people trying to get rich off you.

I refill my own cartridges too. My Epson Artisan 835 has been giving me beautiful prints for years and years, I just pop out the cartridges and top them up every few months. I bought replacement carts that didn't need to have the chip reset. I also have a large format Epson Photo R3000 for printing oversized posters, same thing. That monster uses 9 cartridges and would cost too much for factory cartridges. I've had no problems with refilling, and the picture quality seems just fine. I also make use of the DVD/CD printing feature, using glossy white disks to get a professional finish.

What really frosts me is that my printer was 2 years old and ran fine until Billy Gates slammed Windows 10 down our throats, and then all of a sudden, my printer is no longer supported and have to buy a new one. WTF was wrong with my old one Mr. Gates besides getting his pockets lined by other parties for it?

I own a Brother all in one printer because sometimes I need a scanner a copier and a printer. I used to use Snapfish photo printing service online and pick up the photos at Walgreens. Now, I take the images on a thumb drive to Walgreens for the rare occasion I need one printed.

I got a printer for next to nothing as an add-on with my Dell laptop. The laptop was the worst pos I've ever owned, and I never even opened the box of the printer.
I think I might know where it is, but I'm not sure. I sure don't know what brand it is.

I have had various pieces of hardware not work due to Windows upgrades, but there are ways to make them work anyway. Often, the lack of specific driver signatures will disallow the software from loading. But there are ways around this, by disabling the Win10 enforcement while loading up your old software. It worked for me, especially with an old film scanner that I use for slides. It does take a few steps, but far better than having to replace equipment that still works fine.

I use an online HP service that gives you free cartridges at first and then will charge a fee after so many pages printed. If you stay under the allotted number per month they never charge you anything. I don’t print much so I rarely get charged and if you run out they send you new cartridges for free. It’s a really great deal for those of us that don’t print very much. I basically have free ink replacements all the time. They count on you going past your page allotment every month and charging you which I rarely do.

For business purposes I bought a replacement printer last week - a Brother Colour Laser 3230-CDW. A very nice printer, and a newer version of my previous printer.

I bring this up here, because I wonder how many of you out there have found it cheaper to buy a new printer c/w Toner/Ink, than it is to buy replacement Toner/Ink?

It cost me $249 local....a set of new Toner cartridges was going to cost about $700 all up - for genuine ones. I know you can get generic cheapies...but in my experience, they ARE inferior quality.

The world has gone completely mad, when you can buy a new printer, instead of replacement Toner or Inks cheaper than fixing up the old one.

And for the skeptics and critics out there, even when you factor in the reduced number of pages outputted on the 'supplied' toner, it still works out 50% cheaper.

Absolutely nuts that is....and we're worried about Global Warming????

I have an ol' HP Office Jett, from like 1999 printer, fax, photos, copier & scanner
it uses the (IIRC) $85 HP23 color & $40 HP45 Black toner cartridges
it's about something like $125 every time for new ones now,
I do get $5 each for old empties
glad I only need them about once every 2 years
getting harder & harder to find too, served me well for 21 years
Staples was the only place I looked last time...

I have another printer that I use for quality colour printing...it also has a very nice flat-bed scanner. The main reason I bought it was that Epson is Quality, and the scanner didn't have all that stoopid jargon "TWAIN" to make it work I do a lot of scanning at times - for Compliance certificates etc that are written by hand, documents etc for jobs....

Epson Artisan 730.....I don't use it all the time, but when I do, I love it. Hey that sounds like a Meemee
