Question on road wheel / magnum 500 trim rings.

I have a set of AMC road wheels 14X 5 1/2 or 6. Old tires still have to come off .
my trim rings that are beat to crap are 2 & 3/4 " deep. from the edge to the bottom. 2 3/4 not the 2 1/2"
Ive been hunting around the net but have not yet found any 2 & 3/4"
This sounds stupid but are the 2 &1/2 closer to 2 3/4 ?

A little late, but I just saw this. I don't know much about trim rings but, how are you measuring the height, putting the ring on a flat surface and measuring from the surface, vertically, to the face of the trim ring or are you measuring diagonally across the brushed surface of the ring? I thought they were supposed to be 2-1/4 tall using the first method I described, but, as I said I'm no expert. I don't know there are different heights of 14" trim rings or if they are all the same? Hopefully someone with good knowledge of trim rings will chime in. One of the many people on here that seems to know everything is @dadsbee let's see if he can shed any light on this.

I'm having a similar issue.

The ones on my 14x5.5 rally wheels measure 2 3/16 surface to surface and 2 5/16 on the diagonal.

Thank Geetex, but I ain't no expert! I just make it up as a go along. 58 years old and I came home from the hospital in a Dodge is my only credential ! LOL

I know the different years and ring or not, but not depth. I have a set (5 wheels - 7 rings) of OE 14" road wheels off a 73 Roadrunner here that I could measure.

The rings are 2 & 3/4" measuring from the top inner edge to the base laying the tape on each edge.
Guess I should measure depth with a straight edge across the top like
{wheel back space} LOL.
Im a little slow sometimes, to many paint fumes.

well Geetex, LMAO, You are 100 % correct thank you. If you measure them same as you would a wheels back space my 2.75s turn into 2.5" , its the slope that gets ya.
No wonder nobody had any 2.75s for sale LOL.
in my 60s and still learning.

Well, glad I could be a little help to someone.
dadsbee, if you aren't an expert you sure do have a lot of answers to a lot of questions. I have a sort of surrogate dad that's getting close to turning 90 years old, he's been a Hudson guy forever and has done about everything you can do with a Hudson, the only thing he doesn't know about Hudson's is how much he knows about Hudson's. All his White Triangle buddies (that's the Hudson group) tell him he's the expert, he told me once that the way to become an expert is to outlive everyone that can prove you wrong.
I'll bet @duster22 could fill us all in on what years had what depth trim rings and probably teach us even more info on the subject.

The ring you measured , is it a factory ring ?I could not see the valve stem hole opening or the back side retaining system. That would tell me a lot about the ring.

If you are referring to me, I bought these 14" wheels and rings from a guy that up'd his car to 15's and they are supposed to be the OE's off the car. Can't remember if it was a '73 or '74 RR. They have oval stem holes.. The OP's are AMC wheels !

Yes , that is a very nice correct set of wheels. Because the only made one 14 inch trim ring ( starting in 70 ) to fit both the Road and Ralley wheels , both 14 x 5.5 and 14 x 6 , you can see a small gap at the bottom edge of the trim ring on your 14 x 6 Road wheels. Also from the factory those rings were polished on the top edge and brushed on the face of the ring.

So '69 is the only oddball 14" trim ring, all the others were the same, same measurements, polished front edge with brushed angled plane? I did not know that. Did the part numbers change over the years?

The 69 ring has an odd shaped valve stem hole and only 4 clips for retainers.
I have a used set of those if anyone needs them.

This discussion about trim rings reminds me I still have to find another pair of nos 14" trim rings for my '70 before I need them. Off to the WTB section to put up a post. duster22 where did you manage to find a set of '69 trim rings? Those things are supposed to be just about impossible to find.

The 69 rings came off a set of road wheels brought to me by a regular customer. He brings me wheels as
we meet at certain shows , to build up trade money for wheels that he wants to buy from me.
