Is the heater box supposed to be a natural finish or painted? I glass beaded it and looking for the correct finish? I tried a clear satin on a test area and it brought out the natural fibreglass pretty nicely.
Mine didn’t have numbers but had this faded white paper decal...???Satin black for the cover panel. You can buy the rubber stamp for part number on e-Bay if you want the numbers.

I didn't see any trace of the yellow stamp on mine, but I was thinking the same thing...maybe it's a Canadian thing.Found this one with both, it maybe the only one I have. I'll keep looking, although I'm not sure anyone actually came up with a clear one of what was on the label. Maybe someone ran out of yellow ink or lost their stamp! lol

Do you know where I can get that decal or if it is even reproduced?Mine had the same, two paper decals actually and everyone told me "that's not factory" so I stamped mine like everyone else. Then someone posted shots of the decals that came on theirs, about a year later. I'll have to see if I can find said shot. Here's mine before restoration..

Is there any trick to getting the cage off the blower motor? I removed the set screw, the cage slides up and down on the post but I can't get it off the post...i am trying to find it but i think the paper decals is a Canadian thing.
Tried that with scotch pad and sand paper.Sounds like you're lucky and yours actually slides on the shaft, you must have a burr on the end. Clean it up with a dremel and it should slide off.

My cage slides up/down and rotates around the post no problem. I will try some heat next. Theoretically, should the cage just slide right off? I noticed one side of the shaft is flat, but the cage doesn't have a 'flat'side to the hole.have restored many heater boxes and this has worked for me in the past. loosen set screw and remove. grab shaft with vice grip and try to rotate cage with some penetrating oil applied. may have to apply a small amount of heat if cage does not break free from shaft. once you can rotate cage on shaft by holding shaft with vice grips, apply more oil and move cage closer to motor. remove vice grip and clean remaining rust on shaft and clean any distortion from vice grip either with some emery paper or a small file and then remove cage once you get the rust off shaft. never try to pry cage off shaft as that will distort cage and put it out of balance. do not tap on shaft. that just creates more problems than getting cage off.
I couldn't help but notice this conversation could be interpreted wrong! lolonce the shaft is clean enough it should slide right off. sounds dirty. LOL
