My home is paid off, so my property tax bill comes in the mail, every 6 months. I just received the current one, and it prompted me to think. Since the bulk of the money is supposed to be for public school operation, and considering school has been, and may continue being virtual, shouldn't the tax be less ?

Around here the teachers are still getting their regular paycheck ever since the schools been closed. My question to them is why are they paying Unemployment Insurance if they aren't using it, like everyone else.

when have you ever seen a state government suspend taxes... Here is WA they raised the tab fees (a tax) because they stated they needed money to fix the roads (which they do endlessly) but it was discovered that they diverted large amounts of taxes derived from licenses and car tabs to many other social and education programs.

Nice thought but nothing more than that! I fought a tax assessment once. Was told that the township has a budget that requires to be met. My response was so do I! Fortunately, I had the proper purchase price information required and they reduced my property taxes. A win for the little guy! 440'

This also made the news here in Houston. Basically the cost of the schools remains about the same as they still have to pay all the bills, including the teachers.

How can the bills be the same, when thousands of students are no longer riding busses, and using utilities ?

I’m with ya on lowering the taxes due because schools are shut down. It’s totally asinine to footing that bill when teachers are home, schools are using less electricity (ours had solar installed when it was built). The cafeterias are being used as much.

The downside to US complaining about lowering the taxes due to the shutdown is......there isn’t a tax a democrat doesn’t like nor will suspend.

Still paying for the bus’s and the fuel is purchased at least a year in advance. AC is working to keep everything from turning green.

A lot of schools are packing lunches out of the cafeterias, buses are usually on a bond which has to be paid, teachers usually have a choice on pay (most pick spread out all year), building maintenance never ends (weather), and they had to buy all the equipment for internet instruction. There's probably more. You usually get what you pay for.

With me having never had children, I never got the benefit of an education for my offspring. I’m not happy with the education they are giving the neighbors‘ kids either. I wish we had vouchers so my property tax money would go to the school of my choice!

Some years ago the trash company added a gas surcharge to off set high gas prices, prices came down, surcharge is still there. Moved from unincorporated to incorporated and my phone bill goes up ten dollars a month. I asked why and how can that be, there answer, tax on using city air space for phone calls!!!!!! If they were doing it to anything other than your wallet, it'd be called rape. Nothing rarely comes out the in door.

All the freight companies added fuel surcharges too. Did any drop them?
