For a 1970 BBody Ignition harness connector on the column to the Instrument harness.

3 Questions folks:

1. Whats the max current on a given pin under worst case load? I assume its the red battery connection?

2. What is the current rating on the factory Molex connector?

3. Is there a source for this Molex male/female paired connector?

Whatever the current rating is on those Molex connectors, it wasn’t enough for that use, they all suffered heat damage. Better off replacing it with something that can handle some current. Anderson Power Poles here, 45-amp rating for the larger wire connectors.

Yes, it appears that there is varying load current on several of these lines. I am trying to understand this better. I think nobody really has an accurate current measurement as it changes with application and environment. But does anyone know the current rating on the connector? Is this a 20A connector? I have an alternative 20A connector and I don’t even know if its large enough.

Molex is still around, would have to find something close to the original size to come close to an original current rating. Try here.

Also, why do you suppose the factory replacement switches came with the option to by-pass those Molex connections?

Thanks yes I am very familiar with Molex and was at their site to see what they have. The MLX line is the highest current at 20A which has similar contacts of the Molex Mopar ignition connector. I am surprised so fee have commented here given the criticality and failure rate of this connector!

Thanks for posting about the Anderson connectors, I have used them in the larger versions for things like winches but I didn't know they made them in smaller interlocking sizes, this is awesome. I just noticed that the make them in various colors as well.
