Struggling with 60 ft and reaction time all year. After Testing at Milan last week pounding the tree and getting no where. Best of .033. I made yet more changes. Moved the ladder bars up a hole and reinstalled my original converter. Went to 131 for the NMCA race. .026 / 9.260 right off the bat. Qualified #5. 1st rd .012 lifted to 9.274. Rd 2 .028 pushed Bradenton NMCA champ and #2 in points Jim Netherland to a double breakout 9.223. Rd 3 current NCMA champ Kevin Gass , #3 in points red lighted. I saw it, lost concentration on the tree, .041, car repeated dead on 9.220. Rd 4 Hitter and currently #1 in points, Brent Wheeler. Knew I had to be on it. Set the car with little margin for missing the index. .008 lifted to a 9.276. It was set to go 9.245. Final against another tough guy Bruce Lang. Now its dark. I was determined not to red light. First trip in the left lane all day. Dropped the front tire pressure and was more conservative than I should've been , .046. Car left good then damn. The week before I shut my finger in the car door. Got 4 stitches on my thumb print area. Finger still swollen so the glove fit was not ideal. My glove was wedged between the 1st and 2nd gear shift button (push button shift). Missed the shift and put it on the limiter. Found the button and the chase was on. I had him on the tree and managed to get into his blind spot. (68 Cuda fastback). He couldn't pick me up. I dumped, he went under. Sometimes you need a little luck. This was the 100th event in this car, the 20th final, 18th win.

Good for you on the WIN !

Congratulation !

Congratulations!

Sounds like a heck of a day. Do you think the converter was what had you off all this time?

Awesome work.
Any event I’ve won, I’ve had at least one round that was nothing more than luck on my side.
When I won our big event last year, I started on my radials.
Ignited the tires on the line as I knew they were close to the end. My competitor went red.
On went the bias. I know my car is 1-2 tenths slower on bias depending on conditions.
My next competitor was good on the light. So I knew I had to be tight.
RT’s were equal but he was holding too much and I pushed him out.
That pass gave me the data I needed to run the rest of the day.
The rest of the cards fell in place from there.

Cheers.

Kevin Gass lives about 9 miles from me, we used to work together at the local track. I'll have to get on him about that red light next time I see him.

Congratulations Doug! I had little doubt that the best looking car would win. Probably had something to do with the driver too!

Good job Doug. Nice to see it all worked out!

Kevin's reputation speaks for itself. Him and his wife are a class act.

Very cool. It’s so tough to be that good on the lights. Kudos for sure. really nice ride too!

Congratulations!

The converter was certainly the reaction time issue. I dont think it caused anything else.

Congratulations, Doug! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy...

Great Job Doug!

I'm glad you got it dialed in again.

How was the car turn out?

Our class was rather low 20 cars. Lots of bye runs, 5 rds. I didn't get one, lol. They were running Stock-S/S as well (48cars). Some of those guys would've normally run with us. Overall though it was huge, 650cars. Next month is the Dave Duell classic and GLSSA. Always good car counts. Usually over 60 cars in our class. In October there is a $5k to win N/SS, Stock, S/S at Dragway 42.
