Would the engine still run with a broken valve spring?Damn, never seen anything like that. Back in the day, broke many valve springs, always one break.
But it wasn't blue....yetAlmost looks like it got hot on one side.
It did but only on 7 since the spring next to it was gone in 5 pieces and the valve fell into the cylinder and the piston was closing it. Looks like things might be ok though but won't know until the oil gets drained and a mag goes into the oil pan and the oil pump gets pulled and in...pected deslected and di...sected.Would the engine still run with a broken valve spring?

This crap happened at idle....so maybe the owner got lucky? Not sure yet.You got lucky if it only pocked up the top of the piston. I had a valve lock remove itself from one valve and it destroyed the entire motor (cracked a cylinder, head destroyed).
If he did tell him it's time to buy a lotto ticketThis crap happened at idle....so maybe the owner got lucky? Not sure yet.

They were coil binding.....there was another spring that was getting out of shape too and had a crack that was 3/4 the ways through the coil in one spot. Also found all the springs on the driver's side head were longer than the passenger side head and had a different size wire.Dang, you suppose that was just defective metallurgy or even a valvetrain geometry thing there?
That spring has Peyronies...nevermind.
Ya they'll still run, not well though. And you need to change them before the locks come loose & parts start coming apart.
I've changed valve springs in the pits to make the next round numerous times. Always carried the parts & tools to do it, after I figured out the best procedure.
