I'm looking at buying some blockhugger headers to replace the huge Hooker Headers that are on there now. Question is, they are asking if the engine is a Mopar big block "B" or "RB". Can someone tell me which I have? 1963 Sport Fury, 361 engine.
I will probably have to cut the old ones out since I have no way to pull an engine. I was trying to replace a starter and the Hookers are so big and close in the engine compartment that I cannot get the starter out. All information is appreciated.

Your block is a "B" engine.
Blockhuggers may not dump at the same point, so your pipes might not attach meaning you will need to alter the collector location.
You don't necessarily have to pull the engine but you may need to take out the motor mount bolts and jack it up "rock" it to one side or the other.
Even doing that you need to set the starter in there and put the header in at the same time.
For a 361 some good iron manifolds might be worth considering.

And when you reinstall the header you should coat the bolts/studs with high temperature thread sealant.
A couple are through holes that go into the water jacket in the head.
Good luck with it.

The vendor asked if a 361 was a B or RB?

Are ya sure ya wanna do bidness with them?

Good deal. Are we talking stock manifolds? I have considered that as well. With it being a B block, the headers I was looking at will not fit anyway.

It was giving me options. They would fit RB but not B. That's why I was asking what I had. I guess I'm the one that's not mechanically inclined. Haha.

I would think B and RB would take the same headers. Just be aware that the early B Bodies (62 to 65) may need headers that are different than the more common 66 and up stuff. The engine is more forward from the firewall. I had the other problem once when trying to put used early headers on a 67. They hit the firewall....

If your hookers are still decent , try this. Up on Jack stands

Unhook the battery , drain the radiator down.
Unhook exhaust or header muffler from the header.
Unbolt the header from the head, use some wire or a couple bungee cords to hold it up.
Unbolt the starter wiring then then starter.
You should be able to tip it down towards the front with the header loose and remove it.
Going back in use a mopar mini starter from napa ect for a 318 Dakota ect.
May be worth a shot before cutting up the hookers.
