Anyone seen a factory rear window defroster on a 66?

My Satellite has what appears to be a rear window defroster/blower in it. It's mounted in the center of the rear deck where a center speaker would be. There is a harness (looks factory) that appears to be for it (black and black w/T wires) in the sill to the corner of the dash where it ends in a plug. there is also a spare 2-terminal plug up there (yellow & orange leads from memory) that may have served to power it - not sure. But I haven't found any means of switching it on/off on the car.

I'm not all that interested in restoring it to operating condition at this time - just curious how it was controlled and wired if anyone has seen one of these or has one. Haven't really seen anything in the shop manual wiring diagram for it unless I missed it. Possibly it was a dealer installed option or something.

Available as a accessory for sure. Out of the 1966 accessory catalog.

I'm not sure how much help this will be, but this is a wiring diagram from a '66 Dodge manual. On the instrument panel diagram, it shows an unlabeled wire coming off the third (from left) fuse in the fuse box, to the "rear window defroster switch". That's it.

As for the terminal end, here's a couple pictures from the manual:

And after really looking at the wiring diagram, that accessory is labeled (MOPAR only). I've never noticed that labeling before, so maybe, as stated above, it was an accessory that the owner could add/have added through MOPAR? I don't know. Now I need some schooling...

Guess I should have done a search as there has been quite a few discussion of this for various early years on the forum - and a few units resold. I'm lacking the hose and duct so probably not easy to resurect. Would like to know what the operating switch looked like.

Usually like this: Often positioned to the left of the base of the column

The switch above is not for a 66-67 Plymouth Belvedere or Satellite.

The factory switch gets in the lower dash metal and has a chrome bezel and knob that matches the others on the dash. Like the lighter and ignition switch. It has off/low/high positions.

I’ve got one here somewhere, but I haven’t seen it in years.

Take your pick. I posted a picture of the one I am familiar with. https://www.google.com/search?q=mop...vuAhVYG80KHZHlAEgQ_AUIuwIoAQ&biw=1366&bih=568

OK - I don't have any empty holes there in my dash so the unit may not be original to the car.

Not a 66'. However, my 70' Charger has a factory rear window defogger. Basically, just a fan that blows cold air through the vent. It does work well though. I can feel the air while driving when I have it on during cold/dewey nights.

My 1967 R/T has rear defrost. The package tray cardboard has holes for left and right speakers punched in it. The rear speaker mounts under the left side. The defrost air intake mounts under the right side and blows air to the rear window through a long thin vent that matches curve of rear glass. The control switch is a OFF, LOW, HIGH toggle that mounts to the dash, right of the steering wheel, next to ignition switch. An emergency flasher switch mounts to the left of the steering wheel. 1967's had factory emergency flashers, but 1966 did not.

That definitely looks like it belongs in a 66. Guess someone got the bright idea of sticking one in the trunk of my car but never got around to installing the rest of it.

The motor and duct can come from many different cars, the 66-67 Plymouth specific switch is hard to find. So is the Dodge switch, the knobs and bezels are different Plymouth to Dodge, but the switch might be the same.

The more generic toggle switch In post #8 came in many early 70’s darts and will work to operate one in a retrofit.

Switch looks similar to a 67 rear speaker control.
