Just what tips came on 68 roadrunner I’ve seen both and my 69 had square end ones on it back in the late 70’s I’ve heard oval plymouth, square dodge , my sister bought a 70 340 duster new and it had square tips but that’s a A body , I’ve got turn downs now but would like to go chrome

I had a 68 Road Runner and it just had the turn down pipes like in the picture. GTX may have had chrome tips.

383 car what you have is factory style. I put cheepo chrome turn downs on mine. They might not fit your tailpipes being tucked up like they are. I have a 2 1/2 system that I made from a Summit kit. Cant get a pic now as car is put up till this Global Warming blows over. What size and brand of Slots you running, Love them.

As I recollect they were oval - gotta say the turn downs are cool I had them on my '63 and put tips on them. Nice runner always liked that green.

The turn downs can be cut back enough for a set of nice tips..

Chrome oval tips were standard on the GTX although I seem to remember that some California cars got turn down pipes in later years due to noise restrictions or something. Roadrunners all started out with turn down pipes but I think in 69 the GTX oval tips became an option as part of a package. Same for 70 I think also. Dodges had a rectangular opening chrome tip and that’s probably what was on your 69 Roadrunner you remember.

California was coming up with stupid things even back then, but you could through on some headers with 4"purple hornies and nobody bothered you

Just me - I'd want to go with the factory oval tips if you're gonna do the tips...

I had two 68 runners , one 383 bought new and hemi bought used. The exhaust was the first things I removed and dumped in front of the axle .
I did save the tips but I can only find one of them at the moment . I don't remember what car they came off of But they are oval.
I know it was a late 383 production built car with all the options.
If you need one that's almost mint let me know

68 roadrunners got chrome oval tips if the car had the decor package which also included the trunk lid trim panel.

It might have been late in 68 when the chrome tips started to be offered on Roadrunners. Was the decor package available initially?

What size tire are you running on them 15x9 rear wheels? I have a 68' GTX I would like to get more tire under her, running 15x8 magnum 500 wheels with 255 60 15 tires. It appears I have room to go 2 inches wider tire.

I've got N50 15, I think they are 28x12.5 15 , I can still fit my fingers between the outer quarter panel and the tire I didn't roll the lip they clear the leaf springs by about a 1/4 inch that's with my stock springs and regular shocks they have 5 leafs on each side , I did have to put a 1/8 inch spacer on the right side , when I went over a good bump the right tire would rub on the upper front inside wheel well , the rear doesn't sit center of the car , tread width is about 11.5

I am torn on chrome or stainless steel tip's. Chrome turns blue and the chrome now day's is not as good as back in the day. So think I will go with the stainless steel one's. I have turn down for now and will add the tips later. Good luck and it is your choice. But think it set's off the back of the car better than turn down pipes.

I ordered my 68 Road Runner on Jan. 10 68. It was the hardtop which came with the decor package which was trunk trim plate and better interior, black vinyl, and had the turn down tips.
