'73 Stereo Speaker Layout

This is all good interesting info. Can you use a 4 ohm speaker for the 5X7 one in the back even though the original radios were transistorized (I've always read transistor radios should use 8 or 10 ohm speakers)? 8 ohm 5X7 speakers are a boutique item and therefore over 3 times more expensive than 4 ohm 5X7 speakers of the same type.

Just wondering... nothing to say about the wiring diagram showing dual rear speakers setup?

Not seeing anything in your ’71 Dodge diagram showing both left & right channel “dual rear speakers”. Nothing in the ’71 Plymouth diagrams indicates a package shelf “stereo” speaker option, never seen it.

Just showing what I found. Not saying who is right or wrong

Ok, interesting, has anyone actually seen this option? Order code?
These diagrams are not in the ’72 manuals, nothing listed as available in the ’72 order lists other than a single rear speaker.

I found a 5X7 speaker listed a "Chrysler replacement speaker" with 4-8 ohms impedance on eBay for only $22 so I ordered it. That should fit the bill.

they are the same than front speakers on trucks. That's how I found mine, being sold in $20 NOS. Fortunatelly seller never searched for PN application to find they are the same for E and B bodies rear speaker, because price was raised up to $125.

Note... seller was BradsNosParts ( NOS_Bill on ebay )... dunno how they missed that LOL

Inspect, test carefully, all speakers, especially from that time period, don’t age very well, even on a shelf/in a box unused.

What type of fasteners were used to attach the rear speaker to the package shelf? The four holes in the recessed area on the left side of the shelf are pretty tiny: would #8 sheetmetal screws have been screwed (from the bottom) into the holes thru the speaker frame, or were #6 machine screws, washers and nuts have been used, or were the holes enlarged for larger screws?

Are the reproduction package trays with the slots cut into them approximately where the speaker/defroster are good reproductions of the original, or did the 5X7 speaker have it's own grill of some sort? The one I got for my cart wasn't even the right shade of dark green. for some reason the "dark green" repop parts and vinyl dye I have gotten for my car have been more of a blue-green instead of the greener dark green My car's interior was originally. I have been very disappointed with the interior repop parts I have gotten for it: the folks having them reproduced much not know much about these cars, or they just don't care.
