Hi all,

I have a question about 440+6 set ups.

Is the fast idle solenoid even necessary for good street-ability? Or was it more for emissions?

I also have a question about the throttle bracket, below in bold.

Car is 4 speed. Not planning on drag racing, maybe once when complete just to do it.

Years ago, approx 1990, I purchased the MP kit minus the manifold, Already had a couple.

I never installed it, got orders to the UK, but am planning to install eventually.

The kit didn’t include the solenoid or it’s bracket.

Kit included:

3 2 BBL Carbs

Throttle cable (for e body / 71-4 B body I think)

Throttle bracket (not sure if correct for manual trans after removing kick down rod) picture same as Mancini bracket pictured below. What does correct original look like?

Throttle return spring & bracket

Carburetor connector linkage

Upper fuel line assembly

Gaskets

Carb base and air cleaner (crappy rolled lip edge on lid one)

Carburetor studs & nuts

Coil bracket

Throttle bracket looks like below

Solenoid was used to lower idle slightly more when shutting the engine off - to prevent dieseling after the ignition was killed.

YES is the answer....probably more useful for street use than at the track.

I read they added the solenoids around 69/70 to 4 bbl cars also for emissions, but none of that era cars I had, ever had one when I got it or after.

Never a problem with dieseling. Can’t it be adjusted to work without? If not I’ll put up another wanted ad lol.

Better with the solenoid....I had all sorts of trouble with mine not working at times....adjustment is the key.

Any suggestions on good aftermarket solenoid and bracket?

Heard some are crap from my research so far.

That solenoid probably costs more than the manifold:BangHead:

Never had one, don’t want one.
A friend of mine has one on his A12 just for looks, but adjusted it so it doesn’t do anything.

NO, absolutely WORTHLESS. Unless youre just wanting the OEM "Look". Never has any 6 Pack/6 Barrel car Ive owned ever "Deiseled" at shut-off..

Ive only had a few 6 barrel cars and I dont remember any of them ever having one.
Or do I remember ever having shutdown issues

As far as the throttle cable bracket I think its right.

PS, NO six pack cars EVER had studs and nuts attaching the carbs to the manifold .

ALWAYS bolts
1969-70 the bolts were black phosphate.
1971 they were clear / silver cad

thanks. Just looks funny with that finger dangling and not touching anything

Thanks for the reminder. Will get correct bolts.

Actually, mine came with the carb to air cleaner studs, maybe that’s what is meant in Mancini’s ad.

Did they have nuts to hold lid on or wing nuts originally?

I have a 69 AG air cleaner that has had nuts as long as I’ve had it, not very handy.
