First two are his car... Second two are where it happened.... They added speed bumps on a country road to slow people down.... He slowed, the guy behind him didn't... There was absolutely nothing blocking the guys ability to see a Bright Red Firebird... Just not paying attention....

Third photo is the direction he was traveling at the speed bump he slowed for...
Forth photo is looking back up the road from where he had come & where the guy that hit him should have had a clear view...

That sucks! I’m constantly looking behind me when I slow/stop as there are so many idiots out there staring at their phones!

Does 'the guy' have any idea how expensive his inattention will be?

Of course not... My buddy is an EMT & initially started to go off on the kid but realized he was hurt & immediately went into medical treatment mode.....

He is sore, his dad who's 84 was riding with him & is also quite sore....

Please give both of them all of our best. I know it is the farthest thing from his mind right now and I should probably ask later on, but does he plan to rebuild the car?

He's had the car since high school.. Yeah, I think he's gonna try... The left frame rail is over & down right rail is definitely over... I don't know if it can be fixed... He has collectors insurance so hopefully...

Car has the original 400 built 20+ years ago by Butler Performance https://butlerperformance.com
Still has the original 4 Spd & 3.42 Posi... Big sway bars... He'd just added the tires & wheels & was looking at adding bigger brakes...

Always a shame for a car to make it this far and then get damaged by some no brain. Glad he and his father are okay. Car can be fixed though.

Well, thank the Lord they're ok first and foremost....but yeah, driving anymore, especially in
these old rides, we have to be so dang attentive at all moments these days.
Example:
Wife and I had Fred out yesterday running around some, enjoying the weather (finally!) and were
on the two lane highway back towards home, following some nameless white blob of an SUV.
Got to a rather blind right hand bend in the road and I instinctively backed off the SUV even more
than usual; I've seen some shiyat at that part of the road over the years.

Sure enough, about that time, here came a mini pickup in the other direction - and it was halfway
in our lane
coming around that blind bend, dead in front of the SUV.
The SUV made a wild dive for the shoulder (which isn't but a foot or so wide there) and the pickup
driver made a similar, damn near sideways jerk move the other...and by the grace of God, they didn't
collide.
Truck wound up sideways in the opposite ditch. SUV had two wheels in the ditch on our side.
Fred was stopped dead behind all that and just fine, contents included.

Wife says something to me like "you must have been watching that SUV really closely!"
Nope, dear - I was watching in front of that SUV, like I always do when driving ol' Fred - I want to
see what's coming WAY before the car in front of us has to deal with it.
Better to be a witness than a participant, eh?

That said, getting rear-ended is the biggest fear for sure; oftentimes, there's simply nothing you can
do to avoid that collision and that's scary as hell the faster things get for sure.

Getting rear ended by another vehicle is no fun. Been there, done that. Knocked my glasses off, found them on the floor. Being belted in holds your hips in place but everything else gets thrown foward. Not as bad for whiplash as it is for the lower back.

Glad they're both ok. They'll be sore tomorrow.

Glad they are OK, I hope he had good value on his collector car insurance. If so they will encourage fixing it, rather than take the total loss. In other words agreed value rather than appraised value.

It's agreed value through American Collectors.... We'll see... So far he's made a few calls & can't find a shop that is interested in working on it....
