cking hazard lights operation on 66 satellite

just found out this week car has no 4 way flashers / hazard lights at all.

Looked under dash found missing flasher unit. so I plugged on I had on hand in and still nuttin. ( Ive no idea of the one I have is good or not. )
it has a 3 way plug that takes a 550 flasher unit. yet the plug only has 2 wires in it???
This normal ?
I cant find the flasher wiring schematic in the 1966 service manual I have

There is none. I think it may have been option, certainly wasnt standard equipment on a '66

Mine was dealer installed because feds made them mandatory 1/66. 67 SM would have one may not be the same? Do you have a dash switch and a jumble wire under dash for it.

best I remember when I first looked at this car.
Owner told me updated to a 67 dash to get the brake system indicator light

so, I can only assume it has the related 67 dash harness . And yes it has a dash switch , left side of steering column , next to said brake light

ps, I have not search back thru / from the relay pigtail to ck if its a separate harness or not

My flasher switch is under wiper knob, about 2" to 2.5" from column. Not exact measurement.

Yes, it was an option in '66 for $12.60. Your switch is in the same spot as mine.

The flasher switch? in picture is where my convertible top switch is. My flasher switch is to the right. Don't if you'll be able to read work order it has $10.50 for flashers. The work order date is 4/12/66 delivered 4/15/66. There were changes steering wheel to woodgrain for one. Was your flashers on window sticker, mine wasn't.

Yes, it's code 646 on the sticker - second from the bottom - just above the tires. Is gtx6970's a convertible, too? I assumed the switch I saw in his pic is the flasher.

My car is a hardtop.

I think mine is factory, especially with a April 66 SBD it should be correct ?

Ps, my 67 service manual shows the same 2 way type plug for hazard flashers as the turn signal flashers.

My car has a 3 way plug for said hazard flasher,,,,,,but only 2 wires in it

Don't think so there there would be two switches. I haven't used top switch in 5 years, and flasher switch since I found it doesn't work. Can't say which position is flasher/top switch.

From my GTX and it’s manual I think the emergency hazards system was incorporated into the basic dash wiring harness for 1967. I would try to trace it out but with AC it’s hard to get around under dash. In the 66 b-body I’m pretty sure it was an auxiliary harness that was installed - probably - by piggyback connection to the back of the fuse panel or some other piggy back power source. For what that’s worth. My 66 which seems to be dated about the same period (April) doesn’t have it and the new M&H wiring harness has no provisions for it. By 67 it was shown as part of the shop manual wiring diagrams.

That’s not to surprising as on my 66 I had to transfer the accessory fuse holder from my old fuse block to the new one and also install the original supplemental harnesses for accessories radio, clock, console, heater, and a couple others I forget. Pretty sure it was probably an after- thought though 66 model year although they may have made an engineering change late in the year.

Well.
I did some digging around under dash. And best i can tell its an overlay harness. plugs into and back out of steering column wiring.

Got the switch loose and i have no battery voltage at the switch on any terminal. Yet all fuses are good.

So ......i plan to drop the steering column for some much needed room underdash and ck and trace wiring to see what i come up with

The 67 manual shows four leads in and out of the switch. One lead has a couple of runs out to the rear signal/parking lights.

One runs to the emergency flasher and the other lead out of the flasher to the brake light switch.

Another lead runs to #7 position in the turn signal wiring plug. Shows to be brown. It shows another lead into #7 from the opposite end of the brake light switch.

Another lead runs to the #1 position in the turn signal wiring plug. Shows to be light green. A second lead leaves #1 and runs to the bulkhead and out to the front signal lights.

of course the 66 auxiliary harness may be configured a lot differently. I’m assuming the system is powered by the hot lead side of the brake light switch which should be a pink wire.
