1. 5 million miles ram.

His 12 transmissions is only 125,000 average. My 2004 Cummins Ram 2500 with 375,000 plus miles, no replacement engines or transmissions.

What transmission do you have and how is it used? Obviously he runs them hand works them hard but not abused. but has found his answer to the weak link.

I don't care for that "show's" host right from the get-go, the way he says Dodges weren't known for
their longevity or whatever. Probably not the right guy to be conducting this interview, just saying...

Yes, Dodge's automatics prior to about 2001 weren't the best, but a decent rebuild of them using
quality kits made them durable afterwards.
Thing is, you could honestly say the same thing about the competitions' autos also in those days -
they all had issues.

I had a 1999 Ford F-350 diesel 4X4. I went through 7, yes 7 transmissions in the first 100,000 miles. Not to mention all of the problems that I had with the water separator filter. Ugggggghhhhhhh

If memory serves me I think it is the 46RE. I service the transmission every 30K miles. That consists of new filter and usually somewhere between 5-6 quarts of recommended fluid. I use no fluid that is for multiple applications. One solenoid has been replaced due to ruff shifting and I now add a tube of shift additive with the service. I have done this since the solenoid replacement. All my trucks have been Dodge diesels since 1990. I average 3-5 hundred thousand miles before trading. Now that the 5.9 is not available, I probably won't get another new one.
My usage is everyday transportation and towing my enclosed car trailer and heavy equipment trailer. It towes something at least once to twice a week.

My 2002 Cummins and automatic made 150.000 miles and 11 years before the rust belt ate it up. I did do deep pans and rear covers along with gauges to monitor everything. If not for Michigan rust I would still have it. Loved that truck.

I had 350k+ on my 95 12 valve 5.9 turbo
Power Ram 4x4 2500, 4" lift on 35's
long wheelbase org. shortened & boxed frame, to a short bed
never replaced much, even after lifting & hopping it up
it was a 5 speed,
just reg. maintenance stuff
I had like 395k on my 98 12 valve 5.9 turbo
Power Ram 4x4 3500,
it was a 5 speed too
it pulled an 11,000#+ to about 13,000# 40' trailer/35' enclosed
every-time it left the driveway, all across the USA
& it was pretty hopped up too

Both trucks had
K&N filters & airboxes
retimed the pump
better injectors (loud M-fers)
computer chip
bigger 4" exhaust/Flaowmasters etc.
both were due for a ring & pinion change,
probably axle bearing & turbo's rebuild at amin. too
clutches & universals, brakes, wheel bearings etc.
was all it needed to be replaced
a couple of sensors, O2 sensors, speed sensors & ABS sensor on the diff
on both trucks/nothing detrimental engine or trans-related
tough ol' rigs
I wish I'd have kept the 98,
other than interior wear it was still in great shape
