My sister on grandpa’s hood

My oldest sister on her first communion. Sitting on the hood of grandpa’s Plymouth. I was only three at the time, so I don’t remember what year or model the car was. Grandpa was a die setter at Chrysler, but I can’t remember what plant. By his own choice, he worked midnights till the day he retired. The young guys stuck on midnights because of low seniority thought he was nuts.

His reasoning might have been that the midnight shift usually means less pressure from management, less PIA people (engineers, managers, tours) and a shorter shift. It's typically a more relaxed environment, less commute traffic and you have the morning to yourself.

Also the day. He was a farmer at heart, so he had a large garden every season. Working the midnight shift left all of the daylight hours open to him for gardening.

It was probably already rusty too! It definitely is a '57 Plymouth, Savoy or Belvedere, but not sure if hood trim was available on Savoy.

Thanks for sharing!! Midnight shift usually pays a 10 percent bonus. Where I worked it helped some pay for their kids college without working more hours.
