Hi, I m considering a gear vendor but tti specifically states that it wont fit with their X line
Has anyone ever managed to get an X shaped exhaust system work with a gear vendor overdrive
If yes what were the modifications or massaging you did.
I have a 71 satellite with a tf727 with a 2.5inch X shaped exhaust line

You will have to move it further towards the back.....

okay so that means getting smaller muffler too since i would have extend the header to X part right?

Will that affect the scavenging of exhaust fumes ?

because i went for X pipes and im from france so the import fee just to get the H pipe to fit a GV overdrive (with the additional import fee for it) would make it really financially painfull
I never thought i could use a GV so i was happy with the Xpipe but i m starting to use the car much more often and for longer trip so having a lower RPM and better fuel economie could really be usefull

Why not lengthen the extension pipes, in front of the X-section, and remove what is needed behind it ? You may be able to use the mufflers you already have.

that s what i m thinking of doing not sure if i can cut from the back to add to the front of the X since the back wont be wide enought to connect to the muffler after that "surgery"
The other thing that makes me question going for a GV is that i will have to shorten the driveshaft and in france i m not sure we have many people knowledgable enought to do it

Muffler shop and have H-pipe made that clears the Gearvendor better than the TTI. It's about $10 US in pipe n very little labor.

I have 2 systems with GVs.

just got off the phone with a gear vendor guy he confirmed that a preexisting X pipe will get in the way so i would have to get a metal shop to build me either a compatible X pipe

Just get a local exhaust shop to fabricate something. When your not in the US (or even if you are) you need to think outside the box a little. I found a local guy here with a CNC machine who has made spacers for my disc brakes, an alternator bracket, some cones for my MTB rear axle all for cheap.
My car is currently having a new 2.5" exhaust fabricated by a local guy for cheaper than I could buy and ship from the US. I dropped the car off yesterday and it will be ready tomorrow.
There are skilled local tradesmen all around the world. You just have to reach out and find them.

nice, did you have to modify your crossmember to have the tailhousing replacement fit?
No. I used all the original mounting on my 66 but, I moved the engine back as much as I could on my 65, so I fabbed a new crossmember.

You will most likely have to do some grinding to allow the trans cross member to drop down about 1/4", you may also have to dent the trans tunnel to clear the two ears on the top of the gear venders unit.
