Was the 69 six pack intake manifold cast iron and the 70 aluminum? Or the other way around?

To my knowledge, the first manifolds were aluminum. After that supply ran out, they were cast iron.

You will need to go by the build date of your car/engine and get a manifold that is dated in the same time frame.

I am not an expert on 69 A12 cars but I believe they all came with aluminum manifolds.

I have never had an aluminum six pack manifold for a 440 but have had several cast iron manifolds. Years ago I was fortunate enough to get a set of carbs for an A12. After some research I found a guy in the northeast that was restoring an A12 and these carbs had the proper build date for his car.
I was very happy to for him to get them for his restoration.

69 cars were cast aluminum by edelbrock. Mopar was afraid edelbrock couldn't keep up with expected demand for 1970, so they started making them from cast iron. In 69, only A12s got a Sixpack. In 70 any B or E 440 could be gotten with a sixpack, even a few c-bodies.
Supposedly, there are documented instances of early 70s getting left over aluminum edelbrocks.

Thanks, I have an early 70 and would like to find an aluminum one.

There are at least a couple generations of aluminum edelbrock sixpack manifolds out there, over the counter sales, so just cause you find an aluminum sixpack, does not mean it's a 69 a12 manifold.
In fact, the odds are hugely against it.

And it’s even more likely that if I do find one the seller is going to want way more than I’m willing to spend.
But I’ll keep looking any way. Thanks for the info.

Summit will sell you a new one, but they say it won't ship till november. #2475, $502
Jegs say theirs might drop ship from edelbock in October, might! $501.95 .

I’m not in a hurry, might just order a whole new setup from Mancini.

I had learned that for the initial offering, the manifolds were cast iron. But, due to a QC or mold or casting issue, the manifolds developed cracks, in the x-over area. As a quick fix, Chrysler contacted Edelbrock, because of their aluminum casting expertise and fast development time, to supply the manifolds, to replace the defective units and to supply present needs. Later, Chrysler "fixed" the origional problem and reverted back to cast iron construction thru the end of production....1971 thru 1972 when the option was discontinued.
The origional Edelbrock issue had the Chrysler part number and the Edelbrock name plus the firing order cast onto the manifold as the cast iton manigold did. I cannot substantiate that information conclusively but speaking with Tom Hoover (of Ram Chargers fame) at the Chrysler Museum during a visit to Woodward Ave Dream Cruise, he (Hoover) indicated he believed this is what occured. Just my recollection of course.
