Took our "extra" daily driver down to the shop that painted our two Mopars ('72 Satellite Sebring Plus and more recently '65 Barracuda Formula S). There have been some staff changes down there lately (a lot of rookies).

Well, the vehicle in question is our '92 Jeep Cherokee that we purchased in 2000 from the original owners. The factory paint was a subtle red called "Colorado Red". Well, I told the shop just wanted a bread & butter re-paint the same color.

Dropped by the shop today to find I didn't recognize our car, now that they painted it a newer model Jeep color (much, much brighter) called "Flame Red". The owner said they told the paint supplier to "match" the paint. Obviously they just purchased a Jeep red color without doing any checking or matching.

I don't really care that much, although I prefer the original color. Must be my own fault for not supervising the job "start to finish" myself. Instead of a repaint, I might be asking for a "discount".

Looks good to me... I wouldn't worry much for a driver... If your planning to run it through the Concours De'Elegance you'll lose points but if your planning to run the Baja 1000 nobody will care...

Is it a good paint job? That would be a bigger concern than the color, which I think looks good!

Look on the bright side - you have an XJ that has enough metal, to actually put paint on. You win! I had a '92 with a decent body, but it was starting to lose rockers...but the floors were GONE.

I need to find another 4 liter Jeep....what a great motor...

I am curious how they sprayed that color and didn't see the difference, though. Flame Red is "fire engine red", where colorado red was, if I remember, more a metallic maroon. I guess that happens when you hire painters who are red/green colorblind!

The 4.0 is an amazing animal for sure. That linneage goes back to the early 60's I think?
Damn near indestructible with just a bit of care now and then.

To the "naked" eye the differences in color between the two shades is pretty dramatic. Well, the vehicle is registered only in my wife's name, so I will have to ask her approval as to how to proceed with any changes or "negotiations" (if any).

It's more of a "ticket" car now...
Wonder if that's what they had sitting around. Maybe it's cheaper paint.
To be blunt, it looked like crap before and now it looks like new!

Looks good, definately "brighter"; went modern "Indigo/Ocean" blue on the 72 Charger, brighter, deeper with some "plum crazy purple" pops as you look at it: 72 blues would not have given me this look, plus cheaper (PPG/PPG Omni not cheap though) & easier to match when chipped etc.... Add some white or blue or gold pinstripes to personalize it for her. LOOKS GOOD either way. imo

It looks fine...You'll get use to it if it bothers you now and you might even like it when people comment on liking it.

Btw, what does a paint job go for around there? Up here $6k might get you a 'bread and butter' repaint.

In case you didn't notice, let me repeat--the fourth photo above in flame red is NOT our car, but an image found on the internet. The "body work" done on our car was minimal and looks fairly amateurish. The estimate was $10,000.00 Mexican Pesos which is $500.00 U.S. Dollars. I gave 'em half already for the required down payment per shop policy. Waiting for them to "buff" it and then the lady owner (my spouse) will go down to take a look. She already told me I was going to pay too much with the estimate given beforehand.

Color is a completely personal thing, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, however as "reds" go, it looks pretty good, definitely looks "newer" with it on.

$500.00, the last time I heard that figure used around a body shop it was for the weekly beer budget......as long as no one was working Saturday.

Looks good to me....different to original, but good nonetheless.

Are you still in Law Enforcement? ...if so.....
