Thoughts on this cam?

So a friend ordered a cam for a small block and they sent him this one by mistake. He was going to send it back but I’m thinking of buying it from him to use in my new 493 stroker motor.
Any thoughts or info on this can?

Personally I wouldn't use that in a 493" under any circumstances.

Good to know, but why?
Besides being a hydraulic FT which I don't care to use anymore, just not enough lift and duration for a big-cube motor. I've run that cam in the past in a stock 440 with headers and an RPM intake, and it was okay there; had a little sound and gave it a little extra kick beyond the factory cam. But in a 493"....it will peak the power lower, like low/mid 4000s (and likely nose dive after that) and even with a good-flowing head there just isn't enough cam to feed those cylinders.
That's just me though, I'm not saying it absolutely "won't work" and it might be fine if you're after a very mild engine...

Thanks, that helps. I’ve done no research into camshafts for this engine. He just mentioned this to me tonight and I thought I’d throw it out there.
I’ll tell him to send it back decide on a cam later.

What kind of combo are you building? Do you have any of the parts/specs selected yet?

I ran that cam in a 383 that was 30 over.
It ran great with a nice exhaust note very streetable

Haven’t bought anything yet. Just started the planning.
So far - 69 440 block
Iron heads (likely ported 452’s)
Six pack intake
Likely Scat stroker kit.
That’s as far as I got, engine won’t be being built for 2 years. (Sons senior project)

Six-pack baby!

I used that one in a lo comp 440,source heads..strong performer..
But I agree with beanhead, too small for a stroker.
The 6-pack cork is on you though lol

That cam is pretty close to what Chrysler put in 383 and 440 Magnum engines. Definitely not enough lift or duration for a 493 stroker.

that cam closes the intake valve way too early for that engine. more seat timing would be a plus for 493 inches.

Depending on what you are looking for in your motor, that cam might be perfect. That cam is meaningfully larger than the factory magnum cam. But in the world of 500 in motors, that cam might seem too small for some people. It all depends on your goal.

That cam would give a decent idle and would work well with a 3.23 gear and a stock-like converter.

Imo, a cam is about the last piece of the puzzle that needs to be figured out.
Sure, it’s good to have an “idea” of roughly what the overall character of the cam will end up like....... but I don’t like to nail down the exact particulars until the other big items have been more thoroughly sorted out.

Imo, the XE274 is better suited towards a semi-hot 383 or a warmed over 440, than a nearly 500” stroker.

I had that cam in a .030 over 440 with Stealth heads. If I remember correctly, it made 489 hp and 520 ft lbs. Quite a bit of idle vac and it ran good.
