These Kinks songs about the times in 1979 are as timely now as they were back then....

Another timely song from that era...

I was just a kid but... it’s deja vu, all over again. :(

For some reason it would be great to hop inside this, to me, fire it up, buckle up myself, the Dame and the 2 rugrats in the back, lower the power windows, push the shifter button pulling the handle back to “D”, pop in a 8-track and hit the freeway! Red Corinthian Leather!
Paul McCartney: Live and let die.

Ahhh, the good ol’ days.

It is. Mine has been a reliable and dependable car from the time I bought it new off the dealership showroom floor in October 1980.

That lipstick red interior though was a bit much when new, as well as years afterwards. Mine finally darkened a bit, but that's still a whole lotta red.

The Rodney Dangerfield of cars...don't get no respect.

Live and Let Die was done in 1973.
Junior’s Farm was late 1974.
Remember the Wip Inflation Now buttons that Gerald Ford used??
(and then he tripped over his own feet)

My favorite Kinks song didn't have near as much meaning back then as it does now:

Saw the Kinks several times in Chicago and once the first woman mayor Jayne Byrne decided to greet the crowd before the Kinks started. The lights of the stadium came on all of a sudden, the crowd noise quieted down, she spoke, nobody cared, the haze that filled the room you could cut with a knife, she left high, the party started, the Kinks were fantastic.
For an encore the Kinks did a cover of “Drive My Car”- Beatles. It was out of this world, tougher, more guitar of course, hard edged. Could not find it on u-tube but did find this rousing cover from 12 years ago, if that’s accurate. Sir Paul starts it off!

Darn it is really tough to pick the best in the litter of Kinks songs, Tired of Waiting certainly starts a drinking/socializing session out smoothly but to create a crescendo, an all out audio attack, I have to offer up……from 1981 ….. Give the People What They Want.
Hey, hey, hey...
Give the people what they want
Well, it's been said before, the world is a stage
A different performance with every age
Open the history book to any old page
Bring on the lions and open the cage
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please
The Roman promoters really did things right
They needed a show that would clearly excite
The attendance was sparse so they put on a fight
Threw the Christians to the lions, sold out every night
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
The more they get, the more they need
And every time they get harder and harder to please
Give 'em lots of sex, perversion and rape
Give 'em lots of violence, and plenty to hate
Give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
When Oswald shot Kennedy, he was insane
But still we watch the re-runs again and again
We all sit glued while the killer takes aim
"Hey Mom, there goes a piece of the president's brain!"
Give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
Blow out your brains, and do it right
Make sure it's prime time and on a Saturday night
You gotta give the people what they want
You gotta give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
Give the people what they want
Give the people what they want

Jimmy Carter is a mystery, politics wasn’t my interest then, my bad. I’m more of a John Wayne Quiet Man fighter. Let’s fight if we must but let’s drink afterwards.

Here’s my daily driver, after my older brother was T-boned by a motorcycle, back then. It was a true work of art, grease and speed. I bought a ‘68 Satellite for a donor door and pop riveted the drivers quarter panel in place. The whole thing was then spectacularly sprayed with rattle can flat black. My Guardian Angle had a tough time keeping up with me in this car. Thanks Broom-Hilda! 2C4DA3A7-D3BC-47C2-A93B-07FE4D1068D5.png CD192E22-4EAF-4A91-93B0-95D188A977CC.png
