...if this makes me less of a man, then so be it.

It's amazing how pets worm their way into our hearts. They devote their whole life to us, and provide us with unconditional devotion and companionship.

This afternoon we had to put down our little munchkin, Zoe, who didn't even tip the scales at 7.5 lbs. But the amount of spunk, fun and love that filled that little cat was immeasurable. She developed a fast growing cancerous tumor in her jaw that was basically inoperable. Rather than try a bunch of painful treatments that would likely not help, we made the painful decision to put her to sleep today.

I know we made the right decision but damn it hurts.

Thank you Zoe for 13 wonderful years...

I am very sorry for the loss of your Zoe. Been there and you’re absolutely right,, it hurts like hell. Sorry man.

Lost one of our cats when my wife was down with covid earlier this month. He climbed under her sick bed and passed away. Very sad.

We have been through this many times over the years, all black cats. We have a young pair of black cats now, you would think we would learn how painful it is to loose them but time heals and after a few months a new little guy or guys in our case can help the healing. I sure understand your pain, sucks to say goodbye.

Hawk, sorry to hear about Zoe

Very sorry for the loss of your friend, I know from experience how much of loss they can be. My heart goes out to you and your family.

A dog you can play with anytime day, or night. A cat you have to make an appointment.

Sorry to hear of your loss! It is never easy as pets are often more family than family.
I dread making a similar post in the not so distant future.
Comfort to you!

We've always had strays and "rescues" out here on the ridge - and every dang one of them
worked their way into our hearts and I have mourned each as they passed, much as I did
for family of the human kind.
That is not a sign of weakness, but one of a willingness to open one's heart - and yes, that
also means it's going to get broken sometimes.
Part of really living, my friend. Takes a lot of courage, actually.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Hawk.

Damn it - there I go again.

Thank you. I Know neither you or @Kern Dog are the authors, but it is very well written.

Very true Ed.

Yes, the pain of loss is very large, but nowhere near as large as as the amount of joy and love an animal gives back. I feel very lucky to have had her in my life.

You know, this is so very true, least for me....
Each time we've lost one, I swear to everything that I can't adopt another, that my heart won't take
it anymore when they pass.....
and then I do anyways, eventually.
Every. Damn. Time. :)

If you didn't cry like a baby after losing a family member, I wouldn't have any respect for you as a family man. I just lost our dog after 17 plus years. I get it , my condolences, truly!
