With the gas prices over $6a gallon for 91 non ethanol gas here in ny im limited to the amount of car shows/ cruises in i can attend. Anyone doing the same? Are they trying to shut down the classic car hobby ?

Much as I like to drive my old ride, doesn't happen near as much as I'd like. After restoration don't take it out as much for errands where it will sit in a parking lot for too long. Around here our summers are short anyway - I put on 1,100-1,200 miles in a good season. As such, gassing it isn't a big deal other than the irritation paying $5.60/gal around here for premium/no-lead. Retired now and driving less. Used to drive though a whole lot for my biz so sympathize for those who have to fuel up for work and such.

My 2 old vehicles haven't been registered for a like 6 years for other reasons. I was looking forward to doing it this year, but with the way things are going? I don't know if it's worth it to register then or not for your said reasons? It does suck!

There is no doubt that "they" have been trying to get old cars in general off they road in favor of newer, more fuel efficient, cleaner, and safer vehicles since the 70's. However, I seriously doubt that 99.9% of the people who can afford a classic car can't afford to spring for the extra dough it will take to keep your vehicle fueled for the same amount of mileage as last year, the year before, etc. Don't let the alarmists sway you. Do the math and enjoy your car shows!

I have four cars with /6 at 22.4 miles to the gallon which is better than my gmc at 14 if your going down hill so I will get a lot seat time this year with my fleet of gas busters !!!!!!!!!!!

You should of been around in 74....

Think in much broader terms what "they" are purposely screwing up.
IMO, who’s ‘they’? Yeah okay, what I see are some actively screwing things up BUT then others who remain inactive doing nothing more than whining and bitching about it. Its gotten old when I listen to people with big mic’s who bitch about what someone ‘else’ is doing bad without WDF THEY want to propose or ahh...gee, DO. How many of us solved a problem by whining about it; but eventually friggin DID something to FIX it? I’ll qualify I’ve done ample whining & bitchin – but – then comes the reality that pissing & moaning isn’t going to do Jane, Dick, Harry, or Jack, squat to fix itself. Please note I’ve avoided any political references since this is in GD..

Eventually, after electric car mandates kick-in, the only gasoline cars left on the road will essentially be classics. I'm sure gas will still be available somehow -- maybe 1% of gas stations will remain, maybe special delivery -- but it will be super-expensive. So I just see this as a taste of the future we'll have to get used to anyways.

I just paid 5.31 a gallon for 93 octane here in North Florida !
Need to check on the price of racing fuel at the Sunoco on the south side of town. Guy at the last car show I went to last month said it was over $10 a gallon for the 112 Supreme

Lol, 2 years of high gas prices and now we are all going to be driving RC cars? Sheesh, maybe where you live, but not here. Unless everyone wants to stop eating as all farm equipment is gas or diesel.

But anyway, the point of the thread is will I drive my classic BB car around? Hell yes, and when people start panic selling their classics, I hope my garage can hold them all. This will pass. So will electric. And Tesla just laid off a flat 10% of employees across the board.

Don't you people know ? There was a gas shortage in the 70's... twice. They told us we were running out of fuel. Now, today, I'm much more older and their lies are much more clearer.

Remember it so well. Had a ’70 Cuda then and lived in the semi-rural burbs. Not many gas stations around where I was back then. Worked at a machine shop; part of my chores was gassing up the owner’s company cars (big new Chryslers) and company truck. Drove the truck most of time for deliveries. It was Dick’s Mobil was where they had their vehicles serviced getting their vehicles fueled even when da place was closed ‘no gas’. ****, even though I got to know the guy pretty well…he was a friggin Dick…asking him if I could just get a few gallons. Nope! Once a week my dad would take my Cuda as he worked in the city to get it filled up for me. This or start walking. (Thanks again dad; but he didn’t seem to mind driving my old 4sp ride.) What manufactured bullshit that was. Worked well as masses dumped their big rides for economy vehicles…many Japanese made. Anyone having some coin to snag a muscle car then was like a kid in a candy store. Had some fun stopping at dealers who were praying to unload them taking them out for test drives. Lol, even though I was in my early 20's, they'd put a dealer plate on handing me the keys to take it out and no sales guy ride along. Think they were hoping I'd crack it up and they'd collect the insurance money.

Until they start producing electric vehicles for the same price as a cheap gasoline vehicles that's has the same range. I doubt electric vehicles will take over anytime soon...........

I drive my 67 3 to 4 thousand miles each summer.
I don't check my mpg with a 440 lol, I'm going to keep on having fun.

Yeah, NO reasonable like – transition? I know a few having hybrid vehicles with no complaints…at least so far 4-5 years out. Vehicles getting 40-50+MPG requiring NO major infrastructure expenditures costing BILLIONS. Hmm, a transition span garnering much more GPM meeting prior established fuel mandates? Nope, it’s now ALL electric that comes with SO many unchartered territories – reliability, cost, destination ills, environmental hazards with mining, mfg, disposal, and etc. None of the giddy with all electric discuss THIS! Well, seems cuz they don’t know friggin **** about it. Yep, I’ve asked some all giddy and seems apparent – they know squat on it.

Drove my Hemi Satellite nearly 8000 miles in 18 months

$6 per gal at less than 10 mpg may slow it down some , but will NOT make me park it for very long

When I restored the X i over did it with the motor to the tune on around 560+ HP and having A six pack set up on it I always had trouble getting it to run properly. While it felt ok it was just way off on efficiency and that rich exhaust smell was never ending. I even brought it to a few speed shops out here of course to people I didn’t know - and who clearly knew nothing about tuning my setup. Bottom line I was getting in the neighborhood of 5/6 mpg. That was god awful a few years ago but today there is no way I’d be driving that baby around much at $7+ a gallon for the horseshit gas we get here. The buddy I sold it too pays around $5 but found a guy that knows what he’s doing and gets much better mileage and much better gas in Mpls.
