High Gas prices = no more classic cars?

Friday was another hot day in Michigan so off to the west coast we go 18 degrees different and I took the gas buster along.

This is a bit off topic but what the heck….. I read an article some years ago where cities were experimenting with using some of the perpetual rubber tire waste by mixing it in with asphalt materials and laying new/refurbished roads with the stuff. Supposedly cheaper than all asphalt. Quieter than it as well. And if I recall lasts longer too. If memory serves another phase of use was also for sidewalk replacement, particularly in situations like Hollywood where walking the neighborhood sidewalks is a bit like mountain biking a rough trail. Their sidewalks are simply destroyed by the huge trees that have been there forever and the roots have completely jacked up all the sidewalks in most average neighborhoods. When I read that I thought it was a great idea. A good use for waste, healthy for the environment and a litany of side benefits. So my punch line to all this is really nothing - but they’re now, as they do every so many years, refurbishing our streets in pretty much the newest city in the OC and they’re using this new material. Back when I read the article they were just beginning to experiment with a few areas in some well worn parts of LA. The project must be working out well if they’re now doing it in my area.

I wonder if it would be different getting fleet insurance and plates if you have enough cars to make it valid ?

I read that, or similar too, about 5-10 years ago!

Less wear on tires, way less cracks in pavement.

...and WAY less used tires to "dispose of".
(theoretically, you might get paid for used tires)

ZERO news on that since.
