Rant: I hate chrysler

Change the oil pump and intake manifold on those GM's and get back to us. The BBD is proven to be the easiest engine from the musclecar era to work on. I guess the distributor in the front confused you as well?

And to think....I wash my hands before working on the engine so I don't get greasy smudge marks on it. Uphill battle? Yep. Worth the effort while showing it at places like Carlisle? You bet.

Bit of a crazy rant. I think if you need to change a head gasket on 2006 ish f250 diesel you have to lift the cab off the truck. Changing your b body motor mount isn’t so bad now is it.

personally I don’t think they are all that hard To change, maybe you’re just not used to working On these..

I can only say sorry for your troubles. But you bought the car did you look under the hood. Next did you talk to anyone about the car you wanted to buy. You are correct Chevy might have more room and parts might be cheaper and you should look into having one. That way I know the your dodge will be okay in someone's else's hands. Or you can ask and share on this forum how to do it. Trust me these folks have no problem helping out. So calm down look at what your doing and remember this is only the beginning. Like the old saying goes if it was easy everyone would do it. But maybe you could also find a mopar mechanic near you to do your work. While you keep it polished up for shows. You decide do you drive class or not. A Chevy dealer is near you.

We'll miss you, Michael. Best of luck.
Let us know when you've put the car up for sale.
Oh - and I'm sure there's plenty of super fine Chevy forums for you to join out there.
well-bye (2017_10_11 10_04_54 UTC).jpg

Idk... you get used to it. My ‘70 Charger has the Blackjack 2 1/8 headers. I had to cut down a 13/16 Sparkplug socket and use a wrench on the hex on the passenger side. Cars with AC are more of a bitch.

Let me tell you something: It was NOT a great idea to put a big block (440 in my case) in that (to) SMALL engine bay!

You can't reach ****.
There is almost no working room, kinda like a modern car.

Even something "simple" like changing spark plugs makes you want to scrap the car.

Don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful looking and driving car, comfy and nice with in my case a/c and even cruise control.
But the people that decided that this MAINTENANCE NIGHTMARE is worth 90k in #3 condition must be OUT OF THEIR ******* MIND.

Why am i so mad?

Well i just spent 5 hours together with my dad trying to change the motor mounts.
We managed to change 1 (passenger side) and i'm not sure if it's possible to swap the driver side mount without pulling the engine. (even less working room)
Everytime we repair something on this car it's the same story: Almost no working room. Most of the time you can barely fit a wrench.

Not a great design from a maintenance point of view.
Look at my 72 cutlass supreme (It has an sbo but even the ones with bbo seem to have way more working room in pictures)
or look at a 70 chevelle (same platform), 69 camaro or 67 impala for example.
Those all seem to be way more maintenance friendly due to having more working room.

I don't know. I kinda spent 50k on this car to punish myself.
Could've bought a 70 chevelle ls6 for the same money at that point.
Yeah the mopars look the best and we've got the hemi (unfortunately i don't have a hemi personally) but i think the chevelle would be the better choice for the non masochist mechanic.

If you want a charger better get it with a slant 6.
Or hire your own personal pitiable creatures (mechanics) to do the work for you. (Like Jay Leno does)

I should do like hoovie from hoovies garage.
Make videos about how great these cars are and let someone else do the crappy work for me while making money at the same time. :D
Ok everybody. I edited out all the "vulgar" language and the "death threats" that were reported to the moderator staff. You members need to stop being so sensitive and you posters need to back up and read what you post before hitting that enter button.

That Chevelle has an air pump on it. I don’t think Chrysler had to put one of those overweight piles of junk on an engine until ‘75. Maybe later.

I've heard that the Boss 429 Mustangs have a very tight engine bay. As far as tight engine bays are concerned I guess the earlier cars might be a little tighter with the big blocks. I had a 68 B-Body years ago with a 318 and never found it too bad to work on engine wise. I find the later cars to have more engine bay room especially if it's a late b with a small block. Some of the stuff on the big block isn't too bad to change. The intake manifold isn't too bad along with the thermostat from what I vaguely remember. Yeah plugs can be a pain with the manifolds on the RB engines. The B platform I think is maybe smaller than the GM A-Body platform or definitely smaller the full size ones like the Caprice and Impala. Two different animals with respect to unibody vs full frame as well.

Dang, I missed the death threats?
I miss all the cool stuff!

I’m doing the front drums on my daily driver. It turned into replacing the lower ball joints and tie rod ends. And getting the hubs off the old drums.., and getting new studs to fit. ( I had to buy a .645 reamer. :D) I’ve owed Mopars since 1983, and I’m still learning. If I **** up, I blame myself. Not the car.

By the way thanks for the heads up on the mustangs being even harder to work on.
I don't like them to much anyway and this is another good reason to stay away from them.
But i already thought they aren't better by looking at pictures.
I think this is not only with mustangs but pretty much all vehicles ford built in the late 60s and 70s?

And don't get me wrong. I'm a bit excited right now after doing this work.
I won't scrap or sell the car. I still think it's a beautiful looking and driving vehicle.

I just REALLY wish there was more working room.

And to be fair when it comes to gm.
Looking at corvette c3 engine bays makes mine look pretty good aswell.

We’ve all been there. Sometimes you just have to call it a day, and hit it with a fresh outlook, Reading up online... like here. And some strong coffee! :D

I don't bother working on anything unless I'm "in the mood"......frame of mind is everything :fool:

Yup, if there were death threats I never saw them, I saw plenty of recommendations for GM ownership but people get offended went you say stuff about the cars they love... Almost as offended as telling someone their an idiot for thinking their girlfriend sleeping with her 19 yo son isn't normal..

Is this thread real? Big block A Bodies are tight, you got tons of room under the hood of that B Body.
And, did you complain the bolts are too tight? Wowza.
