My 63 Fury has what appears to be a front trans seal leak. I would like to take it to a trans shop for resealing. I'm thinking I should only take it to a shop that has worked on these early push button Mopar trans. I don't need an inexperienced person to create more problems. In other words I don't want to trust the local Aamco. I understand that R&R trans and installing new seals is not rocket science BUT I feel I don't want someone to screw up something especially with the push button set up.
Would you agree?
Secondly anyone in SoCal, Inland, OC, San Gabriel Vally area with a recommendation?

And I don't work on cars anymore so doing it myself is out

I can't recommend a shop in your area, but I think you are wise to seek a reputable experienced shop if you do not have first hand trans experience to do it yourself.

In addition the uniqueness of the push button trans, it's darn old. My trans guy north where I am, rejects about 75% of the old converters he sees because the neck is worn, which leads to leaks even with new seals.

The good news is a skilled converter rebuild shop can cut the converters in half, service the assembly and weld back together with a new neck for a reasonable price. Hopefully someone in your area can steer you towards reputable local trans shop.

It has a new converter installed by PO, maybe 4-5 years ago. And I am well qualified to do it but I won't, too much work now.

What's a concern when taking the older 727 trans to a newer shop is do they know how to properly remove and install the shifter cable and park cable. They can be damaged easily and the adjustments are a precise procedure.

I understand wanting a tech who has done these before. The shops that have been around for a long time normally have who you want. More than likely the 70 year old owner!

If you were on the opposite end of the country I could refer you to a good shop.

Ps. Lucas makes a good trans stop leak.

Don't know any shops in that area, but do find a shop that knows the early transmissions.
The park break cable / pinch bolt can be seized on a trans this old.
Might ask them if they know the differences in the transmission filters, canister-type transmission fluid filter ('60-'63), Dual port ('64-'65), Single port ('66+)
Or that the '65 and earlier have the rear fluid pump.
Some good reference material, and how to adjust the cable linkage:

Not in your area but if you are willing to ship you can’t get better than Doug “Fireball” Miller at Fireball Automatics. Knows them inside and out and btw won the NHrA winter nationals one year in a 64 hemi Plymouth. In Canada about 20min over the boarder from New York.

To install front seal, I don't think so.

I was looking for a place to drop off my ‘65 BB 727 and also wanted a reputable shop. I met a guy in my area with a ‘59 Fury with a 440 making about 1000 hp. He told me he had his 727 built at Vons Transmission on RiverView Dr in San Bernardino, so I just dropped mine off there couple days ago. Also was told that the owner at Bensons on 993 W Valley Blvd #501 in Bloomington, CA 92316 really knew his way around a 727.
I went to Vons because he was closer.

Did you get groceries while you were there?
You know...I've been reading this response for a couple of weeks now. Wondering what in god's earth you're talking about. Groceries? Is he even talking to me? Is he on the wrong thread? It just hit me, just now, you're referring to the supermarket store by the name of "Von's". I've never felt dumber, and immediately chuckled to myself.

good one, sir.

Leo Glassbrenner's shop, Remac trans in Covina/Laverne (one of those).
Stock, superstock racer. Multiple wally winner, did my girlfriends Dakota trans.
Can build what you want.
Edit: Oops, he's in San Dimas.

I looked it up and it is closed, as in out of business but the webpage says they have a second location in Upland which is very, very close to me. It was under a different business name. I would have to investigate if it's the same owner and wasn't sold to someone else
I can also contact my old super stocker/racer/friend and see if he knows of anyone. Whiles he's a Chevy racer he knows lots of S/s guys after racing S/S for a few decades.

The remac in upland is literally across the street from the Walmart I'm going to in the morning, on Benson.
I'll check to see who's running it, and get back to you.

It's listed as certified transmissions
That's about a mile from my business/shop
