Sold the 66 Hemi tribute and got a 67 R/T. Much easier to drive and enjoy. Original/rebuilt 440 and 4spd. I am cool with the E-brock intake, but previous owner swapped the AFB for a Holley. Ugh. Air cleaner has no snorkels. I have seen other claimed original 67 R/Ts with both single and dual snorkels. Can anyone state unequivequally what is correct, 0, 1, or 2 snorkels?

I'm no expert, but if memory serves me right, all the 67 R/T's and GTX's had the dual snorkel air cleaner. I believe the one pictured is for a C-body 440/350 horse, which had the Holley carb.
 
I had a early 68 Barracuda 383 4-speed with that air cleaner on it. I believe it was correct for 67 big block A bodies and maybe some others. The pie tin on yours is incorrect for the application I mentioned.

Have only seen 67 HP 440’s in B bodies, with dual snorkels. Except a 67 RT original owner at Farmington Illinois Mopart Meet in 2016.
He was stationed in California and got a non snorkel air cleaner with the car. I can try to post pictures.
 
This large unsilenced air cleaner is most commonly seen on 1967 383 Dart or Barracuda. I have a copy of Engineering papers that announce the 440 Magnum for 1967. In these papers, it indicated that the unsilenced air cleaner would be used in 4-speed cars while the dual snorkel one would be on automatic cars. According to these papers, the B-bodies with 440 automatic would get a 9 1/4" rear end, similar to ones in some C-bodies ( never happened ) . Most 440 B-bodies received the dual oval snorkel air cleaner, but I have also seen the unsilenced no snorkel air cleaner on original cars. I think it depended more on what was in the parts box the day the car was assembled. There was also a dual oval snorkel air cleaner that had a higher top that would not accept the decorative " pie plate ". These were used on non HP 440 in C-body. Also, a dual round snorkel air cleaner is common. I think they were used on 1966 383 and 440 with 4-barrel. These also had the higher top and took a call-out decal when required instead of pie plate. 1968 air cleaners had a nipple on one snorkel for hose to oil filler cap, while the 1967 piece did not.
I bought my 1967 Coronet R/T with no power train in it. When I built it, I used the round unsilenced air cleaner, just because I thought it looked cool. Side benefit is the neat noise it emits as you get into the carb!

Never a single snorkle air cleaner on a 1967 R/T or GTX. It could be argued that either no snorkle or dual oval snorkel cleaner is correct. This air cleaner appears to be a 1968 piece that has a nipple for hose to the oil filler cap. Cap should be a tall one. No hose for 1967; hose for 1968.
 
Way back in the '80s I had an original-everything '67 GTX - 440/727 Calif car. Non-AC.
Dual snorkel, and I'm pretty sure it had a pie plate with "Super Commando 440" on it.

There is an Original Owner 1967 GTX that comes to shows here in Ontario. It has a 440 in it, and the air cleaner pie pan says Magnum 440. He swears it came that way, so he left it. This bears out my theory of whatever is in the parts box goes on!
 
1967 GTX. no snorkel, no nipple is what was on the one I have.
 
From what I know, the dual snorkel was standard on everything except the California cars which got this unsilenced air cleaner. It was also used on the 383's. If it's a CA car then it very well could be correct. If not, then it was probably added at some point.

Not sure on the pie tin. I know there is a difference in the Red and Orange one. Hopefully someone can chime in and further assist.

I do not know on the 440 R/T, but for a fact on my '67 440 4dr 383 2bbl it had a single snorkel. Inherited from my Great Grandmother so I know it was never modified.
 
My 67 R/T is a 4 speed car. I know the original owner. The factory air cleaner is a dual snorkel, and the pie tin was the red 440 Magnum variety. (I replaced it with a matching re-pop many years ago because it was rough and scarred up.)
 
I have an original 67 Coronet R/T 440 4-speed that I purchased new. It has the dual snorkel air cleaner.
However a friend of mine who purchased a 67 Coronet R/t 4-speed car new had the unsilenced air cleaner without the snorkels. Apparently both are somewhat correct, but I believe the majority came with the dual snorkel air cleaners. Like someone said, whatever is in the parts box. Chrylsler was good at doing that.

What intake are you running? Got the same car and been wondering about swapping the intake for the performer. Concerned about hood clearance.
 
Back in 1984 I bought a completely original, unmolested 1967 R/T that was always adult owned, and still had the mag style hub caps and Certi-Card in the radiator support. All original, so I'm basing my comments based on that. It was an auto trans car with no A/C. It had a dual snorkel air cleaner with a pie pan ID plate reading "440 MAGNUM" and the original AFB carb was a 4-7/8" diameter air horn, so when I put a Competion Series AFB on it, I had to switch air cleaners due to 5-1/8" air horn. I went with a 68-69 style unsilenced model which looked great by the way.
 
My dad purchased his first RT new in 67. It was an automatic car.
His came without snorkels .
He has pictures from back then.
From what we have seen, and heard it seems to be random (maybe a supplier issue early on?)
It would be cool to find out the actual reason .
